War News of 1942

Capt. Kenneth Sherouse, formerly of Fort Myers, is now on a recruiting trip in Mexico. Before getting into the army, Kenneth was a photographer with the Associated Press and stationed in Mimai. His home base is now at Salt Lake City.

Hubert "Skinny" Hicks has recently completed a course in baking at Curtis Bay, Md., and is now in Boston. He sends regards to friends in Fort Myers.

Pvt. Clarence Jenkins underwent an operation for appendicitis last week in the base hospital at Camp Bowie, Tex. He writes friends in Fort Myers that he is getting along fine. His address is U.S. army station hospital, ward A-5, Camp Bowie. [transcribed by K. Torp]

Sgt. Robert Timmons writes "We fellows over here really ushered in the New Year believe me the noise was far greater than any fire crackers you ever hear int he states. I often think of the good old days while I trained at Page field and of the friends I made in Fort Myers. I hope to come back some day."
