Mrs. Allison was a well known, respected, loved, and sincerely missed figure in Walton County.
"Carrie "Feenie" Humphries Allison
(1903-2000) owned and operated her produce stand on
Route 90 (Nelson Avenue) from 1931 to 1992.
"Feenie" Allison started her produce business by selling
oranges out of the back of her pick-up truck for a penny
a piece. Her business and benevolence grew
steadily from there. During the depression years
and beyond, Mrs. Allison provided food to several
families with her liberal credit policy. Often she
was known to "misplace" some of her credit records when
needy customers were unable to pay what they owed.
After 61 years at the same location, declining health
forced Mrs. Allison to close the store in 1992.
She died eight years later at the age of 97 (DeFuniak
The old store, pictured below, was later
torn down and the contents sold. A new building
stands in its former location today.
