Will of Joseph Bell       1818

In the name of God Amen. I Joseph Bell of the County of Elbert and State of Georgia being in a low state of health but in my proper mind, Thanks be to God for it, and calling to mind the mortality of man and that it is appointed for men once to die, do make this my last Will and testament in manner form following (viz) I desire first of all that all my just debts be discharged.

Item - I lend unto my beloved wife Elizabeth Bell the following property - the plantation where on I now live with all my household and kitchen furniture also two negros by the name of Jack and Hall and two horses, choice out of four, three sorrals and bay, the wagon and a sufficeney of working tools also my stock of hogs, cows and geese during her natural life, the balance of horses and tools to be sold to the highest bider and, Mat, Burt, Fanny, Dave, Simeon and Mark to be hired to home they choose at private hirsing and if Jacks wife is carried out of his reach he may be sold if he chooses and the money arissing from the sale to be put to the use of my wife during her life out of which I wish my wife to make good the legacies following - out of this hire of those negros by the name of Mat, Burt, Fanny, Dave, Simeon and Moriah - and school and rase my children.
 
Item - I give and bequeath unto my loving son Thomas Bell ten dollars in addition to what he has all ready had to him his heirs and asigns for ever.
 
Item - I give and bequeath unto my loving daughter Anna B_lland one dollar in addition to what she has all ready had also one hundred dollars after the death of her mother, and no more for ever.
 
Item - I give and bequeath unto my loving daughter Mary Bell one dollar in addition to what she hath all ready had.
 
Item - I give and bequeath unto my loving daughter Rebecca Gunter two hundred and fifty five dollars when collected in addition to what she hath all ready had to her, her heirs and asigns for ever and to stay on the place where she is now living until my son Joseph Bell becomes of age.
 
Item - I give and begueath unto my loving son Joseph Bell all that parcel or tract of land adjoining James Gunter, James Nash and others containing two hundred and thirty acres be the same more or less one horse, bridle and saddle, one bed and furniture & cow and calf to him his heirs and asigns fore ever.
 
Item - I give and bequeath unto my loving daughter Elizabeth Bell three hundred and thirty dollars, one bed and furniture, one cow and calf, when collected to her, her heirs and asigns forever.
 
Item - I give and bequeath unto my loving daughter Eleanor Bell three hundred and thirty dollars and one bed and furniture and one cow and calf. When collected to her, heirs and asigns forever.
 
Item - I give to my loving daughter Milly Bell three hundred and thirty dollars, when collected, one bed and furniture, one cow and calf to her, her heirs and asigns forever.
 
I further Will at the death of my wife Elizabeth Bell all the property should be equally divided between my daughters Mary Bell, Rebecca Gunter, Elizabeth Bell, Eleanor Bell and Milly Bell, this I acknowledge to be my last Will and testament and do disannul reverse all former Wills, Legacies, gifts and do rattify and confirm this and this only and I do hereby constitute ordain and appoint Joseph Bell Esq. and Thomas Bell my son Exacutors to this my last Will and testament in Witness where of I have hence to set my hand and seal this ninteen of Febuary, 1818

I William Bibb of Elbert County being of sound mind and perfect memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner following.
 
First - It is my will and desire that all my Estate both real and personly be sold by my Executrix here after mentioned and the money arising from the said be applied to the payment of my just debts and the remainder part be equally devided between my wife Sally S. Bibb and my children that I have by my said wife or may have here after by her or after my said wife ___ ___ ___ to herself it may be at her discression to devide the remainder part among the before mention children as she may think proper.
 
Second - I do appoint my said wife Sally S. Bibb my whole and sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament in witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and affixed my seal this ninth day of September one thousand seven hundred and ninety five.
