The county seat is
Lakeland, Georgia.
Part of Grand Bay, a 13,000-acre swamp is located in Lanier County.
The county is named after the Georgia poet Sidney Lanier.
Lanier County was created by passage of a state constitutional
amendment by the voters of Georgia on November 2nd, 1920.
The county was created from parts of Berrien, Clinch, and Lowndes
counties.
