Ronald Thurman Davis

Ronald Thurman Davis, 63, of Columbus, MS, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT, Columbus, MS.

Visitation was held Thursday, September 14, 2006, from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 15, 2006, at Canaan Baptist Church, Columbus, MS, with Rev. Ben Yarber, Rev. David Westmoreland, and Rev. Danny Avery officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Columbus, MS, with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Davis was born November 1, 1942, in Chatsworth, GA, to the late Thurman and Ruth Gregory Davis. 

He had lived in Lowndes County for the past 16 years, having moved from Long Beach, MS. Mr. Davis had been with American General Finance Company as a finance supervisor for 5 years and was a member of Canaan Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. He was a member of the Magnolia Kiwanis Club, a cardiac rehab volunteer at BMHGT, a past teacher for the young married Sunday school class, and a tissue donor. He loved to travel, and he loved people, especially children.

Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Jimmie Nell Howard Davis, Columbus, MS; a daughter, Sonja (Gene) Gaddy, Gulfport, MS; sons, Joey (fiancée, Beverly Forehand) Davis, Ocean Springs, MS, Chad (fiancée, Amber Lynn Richards) Strickland, Whitefish, MT, Chandler Strickland and Luke Killebrew, both of Columbus, MS; grandchildren, Ira Gaddy, Cliff Gaddy, Janie Gaddy, Jacob Gaddy, Lauryn Davis, Alyssa Davis, Serene Strickland, and Macee Strickland; a brother, James (Mary) Davis, Chatsworth, GA; mother-in-law, Bessie Inez Howard; sisters/ brothers-in-law, Fran and Stan Weathers, Faye and Danny Avery, Brenda and Tommy Edmonds, and Barbara and Tim Davis; his beloved dog, Corky; and 47 nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He will be missed greatly by family and friends. Ron could always be counted on to bring a humorous viewpoint to any situation. While being very positive, he could also be very serious and often offered keen insight into financial planning and other problems. He never "butted in" but if asked, would be tremendous assistance. Many young couples from the Canaan Baptist Church family benefited greatly from his long history of work within the financial industry and his practical advice.

Pallbearers were the deacons of Canaan Baptist Church, Columbus, MS.

Honorary pallbearers were the Senior Adult Men's Sunday School Class of Canaan Baptist Church.
