James Bradford King

James Bradford King, of Columbia, formerly of Aberdeen, died Nov. 11, 2006, at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. He was 75.

Born July 1, 1931, in Chatsworth, Ga., to Julian Neville and Ruth Lillian Overbay King, he attended Dobyns Bennett High School in Kingsford, Tenn., and graduated in 1950.

He went on to earn two bachelor's degrees from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tenn., a business degree in 1954, and a music education degree in 1959. Following that, he earned a master's degree in 1962, from Appalachian State University, located in Boone, N.C.

He spent 23 years as a music educator, working for Aberdeen High School. He retired from teaching in 1985 and started working for Susquehanna Region Private Industry Council, in Harford County, as a contract manager and later as a job training counselor. He was an employee there for eight years.

He is predeceased by his parents; and a twin brother, Julian Neville King Jr.

Mr. King is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Frick King, of Columbia; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura Helen and Charles Alan King Hagen, of Overland Park, Kan.; a son and daughter-in-law, Bradford Allen and Angela Page King, of Ashland, Va.; a sister, Charline King Ludgate, of Kittery Point, Maine; and six grandchildren, Charles Lawrence and Lillian Kathleen King Hagen, of Overland Park, Kansas and Miles Bradford, Gabriel Bond, Ethan Quinn and Anson Neville King, of Ashland.

A memorial service was held Nov. 19, 2006, at Grace United Methodist Church in Aberdeen.

Interment was private.
