Myra Putnam McDonald Myra Putnam McDonald died on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at the Shannondale Nursing Facility in West Knoxville. She was born on August 25, 1904, to Annie and John Putman, near Oakman in Gordon County, Georgia and grew up on the family farm there. During her adult life Myra resided in Etowah, Kingsport, and Maryville, Tennessee, Boston, Massachusetts Portsmouth, Virginia, Chatsworth, Georgia and in Asheville, North Carolina, where she retired as head payroll accountant for Highland Hospital. For the past seventeen years she had been a resident at Shannondale, mostly in the independent living section, where she had many friends and often played piano, even after she was declared legally blind, for their entertainment and chapel services. Until her health began to fail in recent months, Myra enjoyed going to Hardy's for sausage biscuits and on picnics in the beautiful mountains where she'd spent most of her long life. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bailey McDonald and two brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Chassie Putman, and Joseph and Dorothy Putman. She is survived by her son, James Allen McDonald of Knoxville, daughter-in-law, Joyce A. McDonald of Halls, one grandson, George A. McDonald of Santa Barbara, California, one granddaughter, JoAnn McDonald Weninger of Oceanside, California, two great-granddaughters Natasha and Savannah Weninger, of Santa Barbara, California and one nephew, John Putman, of Pollock Pines, California. Myra was a devout Christian of the Methodist faith. There will be a memorial service for her at a later date.
