John P. O'Grady

Chatsworth, GA.-John P. O'Grady, 48, died April 12, 2005, as a result of severe injuries sustained in a car accident near his home.

Born Nov. 16, 1956, in Bethpage, N.Y., he was the son of the late John L. O'Grady and Eva Madden.

He was graduated from Kingswood High School, class of 1974, in Wolfeboro, N.H. He continued his education at Plymouth State College and at Flight Safety Academy in Vero Beach, Fla., where he completed his pilot qualifications.

Mr. O'Grady flew for Airborne Express and then for UPS and held the rank of captain. He also owned and operated "Adventures Aloft", a hot air balloon company in Dayton, Ohio.

For the past five years, after seizures grounded him, he devoted his time to raising funds for the Epilepsy Foundation, giving awareness talks, and volunteering as a counselor for epileptic children at their summer camps. He also raised funds for United Way.

He traveled the country by bicycle.

The family includes two sons, John L. O'Grady of Dayton, Ohio, and Dan O'Grady of Santa Monica, Calif.; his mother and her husband, Eva and Leonard Madden of Wolfeboro, N.H.; a brother, Jim O'Grady of Lebanon, Ohio; two sisters, Juanita Hill of Melvin Village, N.H., and "Ree" Haney of Durham, N.H.

SERVICES: A celebration of his life is Saturday at 11 a.m. at Castle In The Clouds, Moultonborough, N.H.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation.
