This is a continuation of our original , Illinois Genealogy Trails History and Genealogy Project and we are excited about this opportunity to expand into other states. We regret that we are unable to perform any personal research for you but any data we come across will be added to this site.

Walton County History

Walton County was created on December 15, 1818, located east of Atlanta and named after George Walton who also served as Governor of Georgia for a shot term from 1779-1780. As the 43rd county in Georgia, the land was originally held by both the Cherokee and Creek Indians.

With the city of Monroe as it’s capital city, Walton County has been the home to, birthplace of or claimed seven Georgia governors. James Boynton, Howell Cobb, Alfred Colquitt, Wilson Lumpkin, Henry McDaniel, Richard Russell, Jr., and Clifford Walker.
