Between, Georgia

City History

Between is a small quiet town between two of Georgia's largest cities, Loganville and Monroe. The town was incorporated in 1908, though it was settled during the 1850's. 

Historical Sites

The Briscoe House and Mill House, now a privately owned, was added to the Registry of Historical Places in 2000, with it's period of significance from 

1875 - 1899  and 1900 - 1924. 

James Berrien Upshaw House ~ James Berrien Upshaw (1 Sep 1855 - 3 May 1919), son of Tinsley Upshaw and Frances Birth. Married Nancy Emma Arnold (20 Feb 1860 - 6 May 1921), daughter of Francis Marion Arnold and Almeda Burson, on 23 Nov 1876 in Walton County, Georgia. 

  • James donated 4 acres to Sardis Church in Between for a new building and cemetery in 1896.

  • James and John Barrett were co-founders of Sardis Primitive Baptist Church, still active and held to be the oldest church edifice in 
    Walton County.
