Volunteers Working to Put Free Historical Data Online

This website is part of the Genealogy Trails family and our goal is to help you track your ancestors through time by transcribing genealogical and historical data and placing it online for the free use of all researchers.

This county site needs a dedicated host to make this site the
best that it can be!

If you think that you may be interested in volunteering to host this site or any of the other sites we have available, or to join our Genealogy Trails Transcription Team,
please view our Volunteer Information Page.

(A desire to transcribe data and the know-how to make a basic webpage is required)

My name is Sandra Davis and as your Idaho State host I try to post as much data online as possible in order to make it freely available to all. We gratefully accept contributions of raw data such as census information, marriage/death/birth records, obituaries, county histories, biographies, old newpaper items -- anything that would help someone build their family tree!

Feel free to email me with your contributions -- every little bit helps!

I regret that I am unable to do personal research.

Idaho County

Established
February 4, 1864

Idaho County is a county located in the State of Idaho. As of the 2000 Census the county had a population of  15,511. The county seat is Grangeville. Previous county seats were Florence (1864-1875) and Mount Idaho (1875-1902). At just over 8,500 square miles, Idaho County is the state's largest county by area.

Idaho County was originally founded as a region of the Washington Territory in 1861, named for a steamer called Idaho that was launched on the Columbia River in 1860 and served miners during the gold rush in north Idaho. It was reorganized by the Idaho Territorial Legislature on February 4, 1864. In this context, the name of the county predates both the Idaho Territory and the State of Idaho.

Idaho County has two time zones, divided by the Salmon River. Most of the county is in the Pacific Time Zone, but those areas south of the Salmon River, including the city of Riggins, are in the Mountain Time Zone.
