Idaho Murder Suspect
Arrested At Naco
A man suspected of being
Simpkins, who is wanted in Idaho in connection with the murder of Ex-Governor
Steunenberg, was arrested in Naco last Saturday by local officers and Pinkerton
men. Doubt is expressed of his being the man wanted. A Bisbee dispatch says: A
charge of horse stealing has been placed against him. To this time he is not
aware that the officers in whose custody he is are aware of his real identity or
that they have tho murder charge up their sleeves. The horse stealing charge he
feels perfectly easy about, asserting with assurance that it will be but a day
or two before he is able to prove that he was never in that portion of eastern
Texas, where the offense is alleged to have been committed.
Meantime
telegraphic communication with Idaho officials is underway and it is expected
that within the next day or two there will be men from that state to identify
Simpkins fully. They will have extradition papers and will be ready on
identification of Simpkins to take immediate steps for his removal to
Idaho.
