Miscellaneous News for Owyhee County
Coyote Turned Loose
Falls before Hunter
Caldwell, Idaho, April 7 -- C.S. Davis, a local fur buyer, captured a
puppy coyote several years ago and after keeping him on a chain in the
back yard for six months, until he was old enough to kill rabbits and
take care of himself, turned him loose on thenorth bank of the Snake
river in the sagebrush. Before releasing the animal he had a silver
plate inscribed and fastened on a collar to the coyote. The inscription
read: "please sell my fur to C.S. Davis, Caldwell ,Idaho. Turned loose
June 27, 1909." Last week the fur was brought in for sale with the
collar and plate intact, although somewhat the worse for wear. The
coyote was killed in the hills of Owyhee county, not far from the place
where he was released five years before, by W.M. White, an Owyhee
county rancher. Mr. Davis describes the fur as one of the largest and
best brought in this year.
