Louisa Hicks
Ridgefield Reflector, Clark County, Washington, March 22, 1912, Vol. 3, No. 24
KILLED BY TRAIN
Mrs. Louisa Hicks Meets Death on Northern Pacific Tracks.
Mrs. Louisa Hicks was instantly killed yesterday afternoon on the Northern Pacific railroad tracks just below the Ridgefield Hotel by being struck by O.W.R.& N. north bound passenger train No. 370, which is due here at 2:51 o'clock.
Mrs. Hicks who for the past four months has been keeping house for Mr. A. A. Knox who lives about a mile south near the railroad, was in town doing some shopping and was on her return home on the tracks when a freight train on the south bound track was passing. She was standing on the north bound track watching the train pass when the passenger train came around the curve and was upon her before she had time to escape.
She was struck and her body thrown with terrific force against the bulkhead which is built at that point to hold back the steep bank, and her head was crushed on the timbers and her brains scattered along the track. Besides this almost every bone in her body was broken.

Coroner Knapp, of Vancouver was notified by telephone and he ordered the body removed from the tracks and it was taken to a vacant house on Third Street belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Steve McAndrew. Coroner Knapp arrived on the next train and after investigation decided that an inquest was unnecessary and he prepared the body for burial.
Mrs. Hicks was a widow and leaves two sons, Charles of this place and John of Woodland. She also has three daughters, Mrs. W-gner, and Mrs. Clanton, of Portland, and a daughter who lives in California.
Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been made but she will probably be buried here.
Note: Burial was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Louisa Hicks was the former Louisa Walton of PA. & Adams Co., Illinois.

George Lape II
George Lape, II
In memory of George II, Lape, who departed this life Nov. 9th, 1876.

   In this death, a welcome death;
    Farewell father, mother, brothers,
    Farewell friends and neighbors, too,
    My Lord calls and I must go;
I do not wish to stay,
Where sin and sorrow, pain and death
    Are constant every day.

I love my lord and Savior dearly,
I love my friends and neighbors, too,
Meet me in that heavenly land,
Where sin and sorrow never come,
Where angels sing their heavenly songs
    Around the throne every day.

There is a crown laid up for me,
It gives me joy to know
    That my Redeemer loves me,
And I so long to go.
A long farewell to earthly friends,
    I die to live again

In the land of peace and love,
    Where joy never ends, farewell.

Polly Giles Nelson Wing
Death Breaks Long Span and Claims the Wife, Mrs. Giles Nelson Wing,
One of Adams' (County) Oldest Settlers.

Nearly 70 years of married life was the unusual span granted to Mr. and Mrs. Giles Nelson Wing of this township. The tie was broken when Mrs. Wing died last Thursday, November 19, 1914, and her husband, now in his ninety-third years, was left to pass his remaining days in waiting for the time when the couple will be reunited in the life beyond.
Mrs. Wing's maiden name was Polly Matilda Pettis. She was born near Fort Covington, New York, April 28, 1827, and came to Pike County, IL with her parents when she was only 9 years of age. On November 28, 1844, in Pike Co, Illinois, she was married to Mr. Wing and they were looking forward to the celebration of the seventieth wedding anniversary, the plans for which are now halted by the death of Mrs. Wing. Nine children were born to this worthy pioneer couple. Five of them preceded their mother in death. The four surviving are Homer, who lives south of Camp Point on a farm, and with whom the aged couple have made their home for years; Ernest of Alton; Stephen of Kirksville, Missouri, and Mrs. A. C. Haughey of Gentry, Arkansas. The deceased was a member of the Adventist Church and firm and faithful in her religious convictions. When pneumonia came upon her and
death drew near, her faith sustained her soul, though old age had weakened her body so that the disease found her and easy victim. She was sick only four days. Rev. W. A. Hutcherson officiated at the funeral services, which were held Sunday, and the remains were laid to final rest in the East Clayton Cemetery.
