Adam Fick
Adam Fick was born September 14, 1840 at
Oberdoria near Mühlhausen, Thuringia, learned the trade of building
constructor in the old country. In 1857 he came to Quincy via New
Orleans. After his arrival here, he worked for a year and a half in the
country. Then he returned to Quincy, where he practiced his trade. On
the outbreak of the Civil War, he first joined the 10th Illinois
Regiment and served for three months. After his discharge, he joined
Company A of the 27th Illinois Infantry Regiment and served three years,
participating in the many battles in which the Regiment was engaged. In
1866 he married Maria Louisa Schrage. He has been occupied in Quincy as
building carpenter and contractor for thirty-two years now. Sons of the
couple are Wilhelm, for many years employed in various departments of
the Quincy Post Office, lastly in the registration department. Then
together with his brother Johann he founded the Fick Coal Co. Walter is
with his father in the construction business. Of the two daughters,
Caroline is single and Ida is married to August Westmann, who is
employed as a tinsmith with the Reliable Incubator Company.
