*George Rupp*

With the death of George Rupp, who departed this life unexpectedly Sunday February 21, 1909, the German-American Historical Society in Illinois loses one of its most loyal members. Born December 16, 1841 in Pfaffenwiesbach, Nassau, where his father administered the office of mayor for 18 years, Georg Rupp came to Quincy forty-two years ago, where in the course of the years he became one of the most successful businessmen. In all he preserved the German language, German customs, German loyalty and German honesty, and proved to be benevolent to all German undertakings. He avoided no sacrifice to give his children a good German education, so that he may be held as a shining example in this regard. The surviving family consists of his wife Elisabeth nee Rüming, five sons and five daughters. The departure of Georg Rupp is a loss for things German in Quincy and in Illinois. Honor to his memory.
