ELCO COTTON PICKERS

ALEXANDER COUNTY/ILLINOIS GENEALOGY TRAILS

Contributed by Frank Beasley-June 2006

From the time of the first settlers of Alexander County to approximately the end of World War II, cotton was grown and harvested in Alexander County, including in Elco. The cotton was taken to the cotton gins north of Cairo. This photo is believed to be c1900-1910. It shows a group of unknown Elco children picking cotton (location is believed to be just at the west side of Elco).
