Cairo, IL.--JESSE LEE LACY, age 43, of 519 Thirty-sixth St., died at St. Mary's Hospital at 1:20 a.m. today after an extended illness.  Mr. Lacy was born in Cairo, educated in the Cairo School System, and spent his entire lifetime here.  He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Cairo. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Edith Lacy Mohundro of Cairo; two step-sisters, Mrs. Maybelle Dillman of Granite City, Ill., and Mrs. Juanita Herndon of Jonesboro, Ark.; four step-brothers, Charles Mohundro of Villa Ridge, Ill., Durard Mohundro of Cairo, Clyde Mohundro of Granite City, Ill., and Carlos Mohundro of Fort Dix, N.J.; Mrs. Oma Heisner of Grand Chain, is an aunt. The body is at Karcher's Funeral Home where friends may call after 3 p.m. Sunday.  The body will be removed to the Immanuel Baptist Church Monday at noon where it will remain until time of services. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Immanuel Baptist Church with the pastor, Rev. Burdell O'Neil, officiating. Interment will be in Spencer Heights Cemetery. Cairo, IL.--MRS. I. LAHUE PASSES AWAY AT ST. MARY'S--MRS. WINIFRED CULLINAN LAHUE, age 42 years, wife of Issac LaHue, passed away at St. Mary's Infirmary today shortly before noon, following an illness of about two years. Mrs. LaHue was born in Cairo and resided all of her life here, in the home at 2700 Poplar street.  She obtained her education at the old Loretto Academy.  She was a devout member of St. Joseph's Catholic church, a woman of beautiful disposition and many friends. Surviving Mrs. LaHue are her husband and one little daughter, Mary, four years old, an uncle, Martin Creighton, besides the following cousins:  Mal and Mart Creighton of Miami, Fla., Joe and Miss Mayme Creighton of Cairo, and another cousin, Mrs. Thomas G. Brock of Kansas City, Mo.  Her mother died when she was an infant, and her father died last March. Arrangements for the funeral which will be directed by Karcher Brothers, will be announced later.  The body was taken to Karcher Brothers funeral home awaiting the return of Mr. LaHue who had gone to St. Louis to bring home their daughter, and who was absent when his wife died. --From The Cairo Evening Citizen, Tuesday, May 19, 1925, contributed by Anna Shelton. Tamms, IL.--GERALD LAMB, 72, of Tamms died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO.  He was born Nov. 14, 1934 in McClure, IL, son of Henry and Melissa Porter Lamb.  He and Mary Ann Davidson were married Aug. 16, 1969.  Lamb retired as a truck driver with Jordan Trucking.  Survivors include his wife; five sons, Gary Lamb of Florida, Charles and Jeff Lamb of Detroit, Jamie Lamb of Vienna, IL, Mark Glaab of Thebes, IL; four daughters, Linda Waltzer of Seattle, WA, Judy Eatmon of Groom, TX, Rene Goodman of Millersville, MO, Carla Sissom of Tamms; a sister, Elsie Lingle of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Donald Lamb of Rochelle, IL; and 13 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and four sisters.  Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.  The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Clint Nale officiating.  Burial will be in McCrite Cemetery.

Anna, IL--NOMA HELEN JORDAN LANCASTER, 91, of rural Anna died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004 at Union County Hospital in Anna.  She was born on July 2, 1912 at Mill Creek, IL, daughter of Henry and Minnie Lingle Jordan.  She married Oris Jordan, who died in 1955.  She then married Ed Lancaster, who died Jan. 9, 1986.
Survivors include four sons, Howard and Carlos Jordan, both of Olive Branch, IL, Larry Jordan of Bunker Hill, IL and Hugh Jordan of Granite City, IL; a daughter, Peggy Harlow of Anna; and a brother, Fred Jordan of Spring Hill, FL.  She was preceded in death by two brothers and two daughters.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms, IL.  Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tom Bridges officiating.  Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery near Dongola, IL.

Cairo, IL.--DR. LAURENCE DIED SUNDAY AFTERNOON--The remains of the late DR. MCD. LAURENCE were shipped this afternoon to Mill Creek, Ill., via the Mobile & Ohio.  The funeral will be held tomorrow at Mill Creek.
Dr. Laurence died at St. Mary's infirmary in this city Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock after an acute illness of about ten days, during which he submitted to an operation for relief from gall stones. The expedient resorted to was unavailing, the patient sinking steadily.
The deceased resided at Willard in this county, and had during the past twenty-five years been one of the leading physicians of Alexander County.  He was 51 years of age, a native of Jackson county, Ill., having been born and reared near Makanda.  He located in the Mill Creek neighborhood in the early 80's and later removed to Willard.  His wife and seven children survive him.  Mrs. James G. Tamms, IL.--FAY LAWRENCE, 91, of Tamms, died Monday, June 14, 1993 at the Union County Nursing Home in Anna. She was born Nov. 25, 1901 in Elco, daughter of John and Alice Thompson Huffman. She and John Henry McCrite married July 7, 1921. He died Dec. 14, 1956. She married Osa Lawrence Jan. 8, 1965, who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Lawrence was a cook many years at Tamms School and a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Henrietta Miller of Kankakee; a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Crain Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Gene Hart officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Decatur, IL--INEZE IRMA LEE, 74, departed this life on Wednesday, December 27, 2006 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.  Our dearly beloved sister and aunt, was born to Alfred and Idella Lee on November 08, 1932, in Cairo, Illinois. She was the first of eleven children born to that union. Ineze graduated from Sumner High School in Cairo in 1950. She attended a secretarial business college in Chicago, Illinois and worked for The Railroad Retirement Board as a keypunch operator until her retirement. Ineze loved all of her family but she was especially close to her sister Ruth and her children. She brought much happiness and dignity for them when she bought a house for Ruth and her nine children which assisted them in moving from the stressful environment of the projects. She loved to bake and the family loved to taste of her sumptuous deserts. She moved to Decatur, Illinois in the early 1980’s, after Ruth and her children, to be with the rest of her family. Ineze lived a priestly life and never married or had children. She loved God and was a member of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church. She was honorable in all of her dealings with others all of her life.
She was preceded in death by her Mother, Idella Lee, Father, Alfred Lee, Stepmother, Lillie Lee, and her sisters Suphalia Jackson and Ruth Davis.

She is survived by fourteen brothers and sisters: Jeanette Sloan (Springfield), Carl Lee, Alfred Louis (Genevie) Lee of Elkhart, IN., Paul (Brenda) Lee, Earnest (Mary) Lee, Samuel Lee of Kankakee, Illinois, Charles (Sandra) Lee, Rosie (Freddie) Taylor, Corinne (Marvin) Holder, Melvin Shelton, Robert (Jessie) Lee all of Decatur, Illinois; Carl (Diane) Riley of Mounds, Illinois, Jimmy (Maria) Riley of La Cruse, NM and Dorothy Nevels of Gary, Indiana.

She was affectionately known as Ineze, Auntie, and Ms. Lee.

Celebration of Life Services will be 12:00 Noon Thursday, January 04, 2007 in New Salem Baptist Church with Pastor Tyrone Oldham officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services in the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Walker Funeral Service & Chapel.

"PETE" LEE SR., 68, of Cairo died Friday, August 24, 2007 at Daystar Care Center.  He was born Nov. 6, 1938 in Urbandale, IL, son of Arthur and Mary Sams Lee.  He married Carol Lee, who died in 2004.  Lee had been a security guard with Burkart Foam Manufacturing Plant in Cairo.  He served in the U. S. Army.  Survivors include three sons, Kevin Lee of Cairo, Petey and Jerry Lee of Houston; a sister, Lucille Hughes of Cairo; and a brother, Henry Lee of Florida.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to service time Wednesday (August 29, 2007) at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo.  The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at the funeral home with the Rev. R. D. McCoy officiating.  Burial will be in U. S. National Cemetery in Mound City, IL.

 

Cairo, IL.--MINOR E. LEERIGHT, age 68, of 230 15th Street, died at 5 p.m. Friday, after a short illness.  Mr. Leeright was born in Cobden, Ill., and had lived in the Cairo and Mounds area practically his entire lifetime. He is survived by one son, Raymond Leeright of Belleville, Ill., one step-son, Ward Wise of Los Angeles, Cal.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Lois Pulley of Mounds and Mrs. Thetus Gerlach of Del Rio, Texas., his former wife, Mrs. Muse K. Leeright of Mounds, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Ginnie Mille in August 1958, and one brother, Raymond Leeright on October 8, 1958. The body is at Karcher's Funeral Home where friends may call after 6 p.m. Sunday. Funeral service will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Karcher's Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Krause of Mounds, officiating.  Interment will be in Thistlewood Cemetery. Cairo, IL.--Death of Mrs. Leftcovitch--MRS. LUCY A. LEFTCOVITCH died at St. Mary's Infirmary in this city Monday night and was buried yesterday.  She was eighty-five years of age.  She had lived in Cairo about fifty-five years and was probably the oldest resident of the city.  She was one of the ten original members of the Presbyterian church which was organized in 1857.  She was born in Wilmington, North Carolina in 1808.  She leaves two children, a son, M. S. Ullin, IL--GERALD E. "WOLF" LENTZ, 83, of Ullin died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003 at Jonesboro Health Care Center.  He was born June 11, 1920 in Alexander County, son of Joseph H. and Cecile Clarabelle Gaskill Lentz.  He and Wanda P. Dexter were married Nov. 22, 1949.  She died Aug. 12, 1987.
He was a member of the Elco Methodist Church and the Pulaski-Alexander Farm Bureau.  He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in World War II.  He had been a farmer and a mechanic at Dickerson's Chevrolet in Ullin.
Survivors include a brother, Mark Lentz of Elgin, IL.  He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Elco Methodist Church.  The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Tom Bailey officiating.  Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery with military graveside honors by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455.

Tamms, IL.--Funeral services for REV. JOE LENTZ of Tamms will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Tamms Pentecostal Church. Burial will be in the Alto Pass, IL Cemetery. Rev. Lentz died Monday at St. Francis Medical Center, Cape Girardeau. He was 69. He was born Nov. 15, 1921 at Tamms, son of Joseph Henry and Cecile Clara Bell Gaskill Lentz. He married March 27, 1945 Violet Wilma Ackley at Elco. She died July 29, 1984. He was pastor for more than 40 years at the Tamms Pentecostal Church and also a farmer. He was a member of the Full Gospel Ministers Association in Paducah; a former school board member for Egyptian School District; a former board member of the Agriculture Statistical and Conservation Service in Tamms and the Pulaski-Alexander County Farm Bureau. He also served on the Elco Pentecostal Camp Board. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cythia Kay Lentz in 1950. Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Orsburn Robertson, Tamms, Joyce Huff, Cincinnati, OH, and Joanne Allen of Virginia Beach, VA; four brothers, Gerald of Ullin, Kenneth of Mounds, Luther of Bridgeton and Mark of Elgin; and eight grandchildren. The funeral will be held Wednesday at Tamms Pentecostal Church. Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (January 22, 1991)

 

Tamms, IL.--EDWARD E. LESSAR, 79, of rural Tamms died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007 at Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born June 26, 1927 in Elco, Ill., son of Joseph and Mable Sharp Lessar. He and Mary Ruth Newell were married March 4, 1948 at Elco. Mr. Lessar was a lifetime member of Elco Pentecostal Church, where he served as Sunday School superintendent and chairman of the board. He was a former carpenter with Associate Lumber Co. in Tamms, worked at the former Tamms Silica Mill, former custodian at the IGA Store in Anna and Food World in Jonesboro, Ill., and was a retired farmer. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Lessar; a son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Mary J. Lessar; a daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Gary Birk, all of Tamms; a grandson and wife, Andrew and Cassandra Lessar; a granddaughter, Kara Birk; a great-grandchild (a bundle of joy) coming soon; two sisters and their husbands, Gladys and Ralph Ramage of Olive Branch, Ill., and Dora Bell and Buddy Warren of Miller City, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Myrtle, Flossie, Ethel, Carrie and Sherry; and four brothers, Ernest, Joe, Orville and Arthur. Friends may call at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms from 5 to 8 p.m. today. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday (Feb. 22, 2007) at the funeral home with the Rev. Steve Pennington and the Rev. Elco, IL.--ORVILLE LEE LESSAR, 54, of Elco died at 11 p.m. Thursday, April 13, 1989 at his home. He was born at Elco Sept. 27, 1934, son of Joe and Mable Sharp Lessar. He was a member of the Elco Pentecostal Church and a laborer at the Elco Silica Mill. He married Joann Ramage Nov. 23, 1953 at Cairo. She survives, also with one son, William Lee of Karnak; two daughters, Martha Ramsey and Lorri Ann Lessar, both of Elco; two brothers, Edward of Tamms and Arthur of Elco; four sisters, Carrie Dickerson and May Dickerson of Elco and Gladys Ramage and Dora Bell Warren of Miller City. A brother preceded him in death. Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms with Rev. Ed Dowdy and Rev. Billy Carter officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive-Meisenheimer Cemetery east of Dongola.

 

Elco, IL.--WILLIAM ARTHUR LESSAR, 49, Elco, died Sunday, June 7, 1992 at his home. He was born Nov. 7, 1942 at Elco, son of Joseph and Mable Sharp Lessar. He was a member of the Elco Pentecostal Church. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Dickerson Lessar of Elco; two sons, Melvin and Scott Lessar, both of Elco; four sisters, Carrie Dickerson and Sherry Dickerson, both of Elco and Gladys Ramage and Dora Bell Warren, both of Miller City; one brother, Edward Lessar of Tamms; one grandson and one step-granddaughter. Friends may call at the Elco Pentecostal Church between 6 and 9 p.m. today. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Carl Land officiating. Burial will follow in Sims Cemetery. The Jones Funeral Home in Tamms is in charge of arrangements.


flagMadison, IL.--PAUL H. LINDSEY, age 62, of Madison, died at 12:03 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2000, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Granite City. He was born on Feb. 14, 1938, in Elco. He married Joice Webb on Dec. 17, 1960. She preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 1998.
He is survived by three daughters: Donna Allison of Sheboygian, Wis., Tammy Jordan of Granite City and Tina Lindsey of Madison; two sons: Thomas and William Lindsey, both of Granite City; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Lindsey was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, at Irwin Chapel, 2801 Madison Avenue in Granite City.
Funeral services will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 27, at the funeral home with Rev. Fred Boatright officiating. According to the family's wishes, the remains of Mr. Lindsey will be cremated. --Edwardsville Intelligencer (IL) - July 25, 2000.

Cairo, IL.--ARNOLD C. LIPPITT--ANOTHER OLD RESIDENT DEAD; Arnold C. Lippitt Passed Away at Noon Today--Arnold C. Lippitt died today at 12:10 o'clock at his home 735 Twenty-first street after an illness of nearly two years, during the most of which time he has been confined to his room. He was taken much worse Saturday and grew weaker and weaker until he breathed his last today, in his sixty-sixth year. Mr. Lippitt leaves a wife, six daughters, Mrs. G. M. Brooks of Chicago, Mrs. J. M. Walshe of Texarkana, Mrs. Ross Cummings of Dallas and Mrs. Ed Nicholls, Misses Helen and Louise Lippitt, residents of this city, and three sons; George and Fletcher of Cairo, and William of Texarkana. He also leaves a brother Capt. W. D. Lippitt and a sister Mrs. Dugan of Chicago, besides other relatives. He was one of Cairo's old residents and his demise adds another to the long list of old settlers who have departed this life in the last few years. FUNERAL RITES WERE HELD TODAY Over Remains of the late Arnold C. Lippitt--The funeral of the late Arnold C. Lippitt, who died Tuesday, was held at the Church of the Redeemer this afternoon, the rector, Rev. George M. Babcock reading the beautiful and impressive service of the church. A quartet from the choir sang several hymns. Friends of the family were present at the church service but the interment at Beech Grove was private, only the family and a few intimate friends going up on the special train. The pall bearers were: Messrs. W. S. Simpson, H. A. Hannon, Chas. Cunningham, M. J. Howley, W. P. June, Taylor C. Clendenen, Jesse Miller, J. S. Titusville, FL--ROSE ANNE LITTLE, 59, 3066 Elder St., Titusville, died Wednesday (April 6, 1988). Born in Cairo, Ill., she moved to Titusville in 1967. She was a retired telephone operator for Southern Bell. She was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers.
Survivors: husband, Adrian; son, Gary, Titusville; brother, James F. McCollum, Cairo; two grandchildren.

Cairo, IL.--ALBERT G. LIVINGS, late book-keeper for Lancaster & Rice Lumber and Manufacturing Co. died of consumption at Newton, Iowa, a few days ago. His wife and one child died but a few weeks since.  He leaves two small children now doubly orphaned.  His body was brought to Cairo and was yesterday interred at the Beech Grove Cemetery, by the Odd Fellows and Knights of Honor of which bodies he was a member.  He was a young man of good habits and fine character and his death is a loss to this community. --From The Cairo Citizen, Nov. 19, 1885--(Dates on Albert Livings stone are 1853-1885, contributed by Anna Shelton.)

 

Olive Branch, IL.--DEAN LOFTIN, 88 of Olive Branch, died at 2:30 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2006 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born March 25, 1918, in Commerce, Mo., the son of Henry and Martha (Clark) Loftin. He married Karen McClarney on May 1, 1968, in Morley and she survives. He attended First Free Will Baptist Church in Olive Branch and the Cape County Cowboy Church. He served his country with the U. S. Army during World War II. He landed on Utah Beach on D-Day and continued to serve in combat for two years across the European continent. He was privileged to be a driver for Marlene Dietrich while she was on tour with the USO and became friends with her. He was in the trucking business from a young man until his retirement in 1985. He was the manager of Cape Grain, Colo., in Cape Girardeau from 1966 to 1983. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Karen Loftin of Olive Branch; one daughter, Dixie (Leo) Hoxworth of Conway, Ark.; five granddaughters and one grandson and seven great grandchildren; one sister, Edna Bowman of University City, Mo.; mother-in-law, Ella McClarney of Olive Branch; brother-in-law, Bill (Amy) McClarney and daughters, Lauren and Hannah, all of Olive Branch; sister-in-law, Carole (Jim) Underwood of Burleson, Texas; many nieces, nephews and friends who love him, including, Toni, Lisa, Debbie, Becky, Sherry and Brandon, Joe and Lillian Sanders of Scott City, Mo. and Martha and Hershel Gilpin of Commerce. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, three sisters and one brother. Services for Dean Loftin will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2006 at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms with Rev. John Montgomery officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Pulaski County VFW Post 8891 at the funeral home. Decatur, IL--MARY DAISY LOVE, 91, of Decatur, passed into eternity on Friday, January 20, 2006 at Aspen Ridge Care Center.  Services will be 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at Community Temple Church of God In Christ with Bishop Willie F. Newbon officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be held in Graceland / Fairlawn Cemetery. Walker Funeral Service & Chapel are in charge of the arrangements.
Mary was born on December 6, 1914, to Benjamin and Jessie Drake in Marianna, Arkansas. Mary accepted Christ at the age of 16 and was faithfully doing whatever she could for the Lord. She moved to Illinois in 1920 and became a devoted member and mother of Sandusky Church of God In Christ, working where ever needed. Mother was employed at the apple and peach orchards in Anna, Illinois and she also worked as a seamstress at NYA, in Southern Illinois.
On May 17, 1941, she was united in marriage to Bunch Love of Mounds, Illinois; from this union they welcomed seven children. Mother Love was also a Foster Mother to a multitude of children until 1996. In April 1996, after health declined, she moved to Decatur, to the home of her daughter Daisy Glass and became a member of Community Temple Church of God In Christ and there remained until November 24, 2002. When her health further declined she became a resident of Aspen Ridge Care Center, where she remained until God called her home.

Mother Love leaves not to mourn, but to lovingly cherish: three daughters: Gola Banks of Decatur, Daisy Glass of Decatur, and Rose Love of Alton, Illinois, three sons: Diamond Love of Decatur, Rev. James (Claria) Love of Sandusky, Illinois, Delbert Love of Cobden, Illinois, one nephew: Clarence Love of Energy, Illinois, one brother: Freddie Drake of Decatur, 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Mother Love was preceded in death by her: parents, husband, and oldest son: Nelson Cee, two sisters, two brothers, one niece: Earlene Love, son-in-law: Ronnie Banks Sr.

Mother Love was a wonderful lady and truly an inspiration and blessing to everyone who knew and loved her. She will be greatly missed, but will live in our hearts and memories forever.
 We all love you, but God loves you best. See you in the Sweet Bye & Bye.

McClure, IL.--DAVID J. LOVELL--Old Resident of McClure Passes Away on Friday--Largely attended funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Pentecost church here for David J. Lovell, one of the older residents of this section, who passed away Friday.  Services were conducted by the Rev. William Smith and interment was made in the Lindsay cemetery. Mr. Lovell was born in Golconda, Ill., Oct. 16, 1854.  On July 9, 1893, Mr. Lovell was married to Miss Ella Everhart and they were the parents of one son, Clyde.  Mr. Lovell had spent his entire life in Southern Illinois and for over twenty years the McClure Bottoms has been his home.  He has been engaged in farming all his life, and has always been held in high esteem by all who knew him. He leaves, beside his wife, three grandchildren, two sisters, Mary Frazier and Amanda Robinson, and one brother, James, who resides in California.  He is a brother-in-law of George and Wm. Everhart of Cairo and an uncle of Emory Johnson of Cairo. The out-of-town people who attended the funeral were Alonzo Taylor of Herrin, Mrs. J. E. Elgin and grandson, Billie Liebesck, of St. Louis, Mrs. Robert Frazier, Mrs. Herman Ulte and baby and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Casey of Murphysboro, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Cairo, IL.--MISS BRIDGET LYNCH, 85, of 323 9th St., died at 9:40 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Hospital.  She had been a patient there for three weeks.  She was a member of St. Patrick's Church. Miss Lynch is survived by one brother, Mike Lynch, of Cairo. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 8 a.m. in the downstairs chapel at St. Patrick's Church with Father Kilfoil officiating and interment will be in Calvary Cemetery at Villa Ridge. Ullin, IL.--WILLIAM "SCOTTIE" LYNCH, 81, of Martinsville, IL and formerly of Ullin, died at 7:20 a.m. Monday, July 4, 2005 in the Burnside Nursing Home in Casey. He was born on April 22, 1924 in Carbondale, the son of William A. and Edith C. Young Lynch. He married Margaret Shaw on June 30, 1946. She preceded him in death on Dec. 30, 2003. He is survived by three daughters, the Rev. Mary Mallory of Birmingham, Mich., Barbara Kammacher and husband, Gale, of Martinsville, and Susan Brewser and husband, Paul, of Jacksonville; two step-sisters, Elizabeth Kaye Bovey of Battleground, Wash., and Lula Bigler of Carbondale; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Lynch are at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 8 at Willow Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church in rural Martinsville, with the Rev. Kevin Small officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Greenwell Funeral Home in Martinsville with Masonic services at 7:45 p.m. by Clark Lodge #603. Graveside services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 9, in the Ullin Cemetery. Mr. Lynch was a retired teacher and school administrator, having retired as the Superintendent of Schools in Mazon, IL. He received his bachelor's degree at Southern Illinois University; his master's degree at Indiana University and his administrative degree at Eastern Illinois University. He was a member of the Harlingin Wesley United Methodist Church in Harlingin, TX, and since coming to Martinsville has attended the Willow Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Mazon Lodge #826 A.F.&A.M.; the Scottish Rite Body of Bloomington; Naval Mine Sweepers Assoc.; Illinois Education Administrators Assoc. and American Legion Post #352 in Mazon. A veteran of World War II, he served as a 1st Class Radio man on the USS Revenge, a mine sweeper vessel which was the first ship to enter Tokyo Bay. --From the Anna Gazette Democrat, donated by Ben Cauble. --(Note: Mr. and Mrs. Lynch both taught at Tamms High School in the mid-1950s. Coach Lynch was a successful coach, taking one basketball team to the sectional tournament. Among the outstanding players that he coached was Charlie "Chico" Vaughn, who still holds a state high school record for most points scored and who later was a stand-out player for Southern Illinois University, Carbondale and also played for the NBA.)
