Captain Ray D. Matheny was the company commander in 1957 when the group went to Camp Ripley, Minn. This was the 130th Infantry Tank Company. The summer camp consisted of two units, Cairo and Carbondale.

Matheny had a small store in Cairo where he sold groceries and hardware items. The store was located on Commercial Ave. near 20th Street.
