Tulsa, OK--HELEN YVONNE PACK, 82, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2007 in Irkutsk, Russia. Born May 13, 1925, in Thebes, IL, to Ira and Ruth Light. She was living in Costa Mesa, CA and was formerly of Tulsa. She passed away doing what she loved, on a tour of Mongolia, China. Survived by: daughter, Sandi Liersh of Sparks, NV; son, Carl Pack of Tulsa; daughter, Jan Stambaugh and husband, Andy of Monterey, OK; son, David Pack and wife, Kathy of Buford, GA; daughter, Merri Johnson and husband, John of Malawi, Africa; daughter, Susan Heck and husband, Doug of Tulsa; son, John Pack and wife, Sheryl of Crete, IL; 20 grandchildren and 33 great-grand-children. Family visitation 6-8 p.m., Friday August 24, 2007 Moore's Southlawn Chapel. Oklahoma City, OK--FREDERICK WILLIAM PAHLKE, age 74, died October 21, 1992 in OKC. He was born June 16, 1918 in Cairo, Illinois. Graduate of Classen High School, 1939. Member of Disabled American Veterans, Veteran of Foreign Wars, American Legion. Served in the US Army 157th Infantry of the 45th Division as a medic during World War II. Survived by wife, Lucille, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Charolet Pahlke; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Dale Krei- meyer; sisters, Erma Pahlke, Dorothy Pahlke, a nd Geisla Head; grandsons, Chris and Chad Pahlke, Michael and Jimmy Kreimeyer. Elco, IL.--MRS. IDA M. PALMER, Elco, died April 14, 1969 at a hospital in Cape Girardeau, (MO). Mrs. Palmer had celebrated her 102 birthday October 30 and had remained in good health until a recent fall in which she broke her hip. She was a member of the Pentecost church in Elco. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Provo, Mrs. Bessie Knupp, Elco, and Mrs. Lora Allen, Tamms; one son, George Palmer, Bessemer, AL; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Crain Funeral Chapel in Tamms with Rev. John Blazier of Elco officiating. Interment was in the McCrite Cemetery near Tamms. (Note: Mrs. Palmer was born October 30, 1866. She married James F. Palmer. Cairo, IL.--FONG PANG, age 75, who for more than 40 years operated the Sam Lee Laundry of Cairo, died Monday night at Charleston, Mo., after an extended illness.  He was born in San Francisco, Calif., January 8th, 1889. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Geraldine Pang; two sons, Gerald and Gary; four daughters, Guey Mei, Gail, Gloria and Giselle, all of Cairo and other relatives. Friends may call at the Ruffin Funeral Home after 5 p.m., Friday. Funeral services will be held at the Ruffin Funeral Home, Saturday at 10 a.m., with Rev. P. J. Tamms, IL.--WALTER S. PANG, age 84, of Tamms, died Sunday, May 20, 2007 at his home.  He was born on Nov. 9, 1922 in Cairo, IL to Harry and Lin Lee (Gee) Pang.  He married Wanda Hale on Feb. 29, 1948.  Pang was a civil engineer with U. S. Army corps of Engineers, retiring in 1983 as Assistant Chief of the Midwest.  He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers.  He was in the U. S. Army during World War II, serving in the Aleutian Islands and attaining the rank of Master Sergeant  He was a member of the Cairo Masonic Lodge No. 237 AF & AM, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Ainad Shrine.  He was a member of the Clifford-Mills-Clendenin Post 2649, Veterans of Foreign Wars where he had served twice as Post Commander.  He also served as 15th District of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 406 in Cairo.  He served three terms as mayor of Tamms and was on the Governor's Task Force on Aging.  He was a Methodist.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Benner of Muncie, Ind., and Kim Strich of Indianapolis; two sisters, Mamie of Taiwan and Judy Chung of Portland, Ore; and four grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by six brothers.  Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, with Masonic rites at 7:30 p.m. by the Cairo Masonic Lodge No. 237, AF & AM.  Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (May 23, 2007) at the funeral home.  The Rev. Kelly Cox will officiate, with burial in St. John's Cemetery with full military honors by a ritual team made up of area veterans groups sponsored by the Pulaski County Post 8891, VFW.



Thebes, IL.--MARY E. PARNELL, age 85 of Thebes, Ill., died at 2 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002 at the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She was born Sep. 15, 1916 at Belknap, Ill., daughter of the late George Steele and Stella Jameson Steele. Mrs. Parnell was a housewife/homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church in Thebes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Parnell in 1986 and by a brother and a sister. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Juanita L. Parnell of Thebes and by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mary E. Parnell were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2002 at the Jones Funeral Home in Tamms with Rev. Carl D. Fisher officiating.  Interment followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes. Cairo, IL.--MRS. BIRD M. PARKER, 89, of 313 7th St., Cairo, died Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. at her home, after a long illness. She was born at Unity, Ill. the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Murray.  She came to Cairo in 1933 and has made her home here since that time. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Parker, in 1914 and by a daughter, Winifred Parker in 1913. She is survived by two daughters, Miss Harriet Parker and Miss Lindell Parker both of Cairo, Ill., a niece, Mrs. Hazel Sellars, of Greenville, Miss., and a grand-nephew, Lee Forrest, of Vicksburg, Miss. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Johnson and Lambert Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen H. Swanson officiating. Interment will be made in the Thistlewood Cemetery at Mounds. Cairo, IL.--HARRIET L. PARKER, 93, of Cairo died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at her home. She was born May 31, 1911, in Mounds, Ill., daughter of William and Birdie Murray Parker. Miss Parker was a retired bookkeeper for Banks Grocery Co. in Cairo.  She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Miss Parker is survived by her sister, Miss Lindell H. Parker of Cairo and cousins. Friends called from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10 at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James Rivett officiating.  Burial followed in Beechwood Cemetery in Mounds. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 413 Douglas St., Cairo, IL 62914 in memory of Miss Parker. Cairo, IL.--LINDELL H. PARKER, 92, of Cairo, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005 at her home. She was born Sept. 21, 1913 in Mounds, IL, daughter of William H. and Birdie Murray Parker. Parker worked as a secretary for Illinois Mineral Company in Cairo, prior to retirement. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cairo. Survivors include cousins and other relatives. She was preceded in death by a sister. Friends may call at the Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Pastor James Rivett will officiate, with burial in Beechwood Cemetery in Mounds, IL.

DECATUR, IL — BESSIE M. ADAMS PARSONS, 74, of Decatur went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on April 8, 2004 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Services will be held Noon Saturday the Greater Mt. Olive M.B. Church with Rev. Robert White officiating. Visitation will be 10-11:00 with Elks Rites at 11:00 A.M. Burial: 10:00 A.M. Monday at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Bessie was born on January 11, 1930 in Portageville, Mo. to Willie Mae Ranciville and Joe Madison. She moved to Cairo, Il. as a young girl and she lived there until 1963.
 She married Cleo Parsons Sr. in 1949 two children were born from this union. In 1953 she married James Adams seven children were born to this union. In 1963 she moved to Decatur which remained her residence until her death. She was a former member of the Mount Table Baptist Church in Sandusky, Il. While residing in Decatur she was a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church and also attended St. John’s Baptist Church.  She was also a member of the Soy City Temple #1253 for many years. She was the Daughter Ruler for 25 years. Bessie truly loved Elkdom.  
She leaves to cherish her memories: son, Michael Adams, James Adams both of Aurora, Co, DeWayne Adams and Terrance(Beth Smith) Adams both of Decatur, Angel (Wanita) Madison of Minneapolis, Mn.; daughters, Florence L. Cottage Hills, IL--MRS. MYRTLE LYDIA KNIGHT PATTERSON, wife of Eura Patterson, 1105 Lee St., Cottage Hills, died at 3 a.m. today in Alton Memorial Hospital.  Mrs. Patterson, 75, had been in failing health five years and a patient in the hospital four days.  She was born June 14, 1890, at Thebes, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ben Staten.  Before moving to Cottage Hills 12 years ago, she had lived in Grafton.  Surviving in addition to her husband, whom she married in 1955 in Alton, are a daughter, Mrs. Irene Eller, Amboy, (IL), and four sons, Delles and Samuel Knight, Alton, IL, Alvin Knight, Grafton; and Curtis Knight, Cottage Hills, children of a previous marriage.  She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Lillie Bledsoe, Bethalto; a brother, William Staten of Rosewood Heights, (IL); 23 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.  Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.  Mrs. Patterson was a member of Assembly of God, Forest Homes and the pastor of the church, Rev. Louie Estes, will officiate at services Thursday at 10 a.m. in Morrow-Quinn Mortuary.  Burial will be in Scenic Hill Cemetery, Grafton.  (Contributed by Donna Knight)

 

Cairo, IL.--MRS. BERTIE PECK, age 64 years, died at St. Mary's Hospital Thursday at 9:10 p.m. after an extended illness. Her home was at 327 Eighth Street, where she had lived for the past nine years.
Mrs. Peck was born in Evansville, Ind., January 1, 1884.  She had been a resident of Cairo for the past 35 years.
She was a member of Parthenia Rebekah Lodge No. 229 and the Immanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include her former husband, E. D. Peck of Cairo; three daughters, Mrs. George Barnhill of Paducah, Ky.; Mrs. Louis Fodge of Sikeston, Mrs. Homer Johnson of Cairo; two sons, B. B. and Milton Peck, both of Cairo; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. B. B. Peck of Cairo; one sister, Mrs. R. J. Hale of Cairo; two brothers, Milton McGrew of Hampton, Ky., Lonnie McGrew of Wheatcroft, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The body is at Karcher Brothers Funeral Home where friends may call after 7 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Immanuel Baptist Church with the pastor, Rev. Robert Moore, assisted by Rev. Wayne Child, officiating. Interment will be made in Thistlewood Cemetery.  The Rebekah Lodge, of which she was a member will officiate at the grave. Miller City, IL--JAKE PECORD, 16, of Miller City died Friday, July 6, 2007 in a vehicle accident in Miller City.  He was born Sept 6, 1990 in Cape Girardeau, MO, son of Jerry A. and Cacey Williams Pecord.  He was a member of LaCroix United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.  He was a student at Central High School in Cape Girardeau, where he was active in FBLA, having recently received national recognition for his work with computers.  He worked on the family farm in Miller City, where he enjoyed the outdoors, especially four-wheeling, hunting, camping and hanging out with friends.  Besides enjoying working with computers he was an avid bowler in a youth league in Cape.  Survivors include his parents, Jerry and Cacey Pecord of Miller City; maternal grandparents, Charlie and Jo Williams of Bloomington, IL; two brothers, Sean and Wade Pecord of Miller City; three sisters, Sarah, Savannah and Summer Pecord of Miller City.  He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.  Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau from 4 to 8 p.m. today.  The service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday (July 8, 2007) at the funeral home, with the Rev. Miller City,IL--JERRY H. "BUD" PECORD, 88, of Miller City died Monday, June 6, 2005 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau,MO.  He was born June 16, 1916 in Miller City, son of Jerry W. and Jennie Schlamer Pecord.  He married Velma Louise Pecord, who died in 1987.  Pecord was a retired farmer.  Survivors include a son, Jerry A. Pecord of Miller City; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a son, a brother, and a sister.  Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo from 5 to 8 p.m. today.  Graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge, Ill.  The Rev. Miller City, IL.--ORVAL EUGENE "GENE" PECORD, 81, of Miller City died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at Day Star Care Center in Cairo, IL. He was born Jan. 2, 1923, in Miller City, son of Milton and Mary Lena Hornberger Pecord.  On July 6, 1943 he was united in marriage to Beverly "Bunny" Becker.  She survives. Mr. Pecord worked at Two Rivers Oil, then retired as superintendent of Alexander County Water District.  He operated the Gene Pecord Hunting Club for 50 years.  He was a member of Lake Milligan Baptist Church.  He was a World War II Navy Veteran serving on the USS Courtland. Survivors include his wife, Beverly "Bunny" Pecord; two sons, Clinton (Susan) Pecord of Union, Mo., Billy (Deana) Pecord of Thebes, Ill.; two daughters, Becky (Stan) Cantrell of Advance, Mo., Amy (Bill) McClarney of Thebes; a brother, Milton (Virginia) Pecord of Olive Branch, Ill; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004 at the Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. Verlee Eaker officiating. Cairo, IL.--MRS. OUIDA SALMON PEERY, 71, of Brook, Ind., formerly of Cairo, died Thursday morning in the Jasper County Hospital at Rensselaer, Ind. Mrs. Peery was a resident of Brook for the last 10 years and was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Cairo and the Brook-Irquois Chapter 559 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Brook. She was the bookkeeper for several years for the Iron Workers Local at Paducah, Ky. She is survived by her husband, Richard (Bob) Peery of Brook, Ind.; daughter, Mrs. Sydney Jean Heggood of Jacksonville, Fla.; son, Edward Salmon of Cairo; brother, Allen Fults of Olive Branch; one granddaughter, five grandsons, one great-granddaughter and three great-grandsons. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Saturday at the Crain-Barkett Funeral Home.  Service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. flagMcClure, IL--MARION W. PETITT, 68, of McClure died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.  He was born Feb. 24, 1939 in Thebes, IL, son of Herman and Essie Meyer Petitt.  He married Marie Kelley Oct. 5, 1971 in Cairo, IL.
He served in the U. S. Army 12 years during the Korean and Vietnam wars.  He farmed and did timber work in the McClure area.  He had worked for McClure Saw Mill and was employed by Trojan Powder Plant in Wolf Lake, IL.  He was a lifetime member of Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 in Anna, IL, and former post commander of John Phillip Memorial VFW Post 2228 in McClure.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Petitt of McClure; three sons, Steve Kelley and Mark Kelley, both of Cape Girardeau, and Douglas Kelley of St. Louis; two daughters, Nicole Petitt of McClure and Deborah Kennedy of Chaffee, MO; a brother, Billy Petitt of Thebes; two sisters, Minnie MacCartee of Silver Hills, AL, and Mildred Held of Olive Branch, IL; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Dec. 4, 2007) at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home.  The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, (Dec. 5, 2007) at the funeral home with the Rev. Thebes, IL.--CLIFFORD CARL "BUD" PHILLIPS,78, of Thebes died at 2:50 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2006 at his home. Phillips was born June 28, 1927 at McClure, son of the late William Jesse and Anna Belle Wilson Phillips. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 4 at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms with Kathy Hobbs officiating. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. Thebes, IL.--EDDIE MERLE PHILLIPS, 66, of Thebes died Monday, Aug. 20, 2007 at his home.  He was born Feb. 20, 1941 in Paducah, KY, son of Jesse and Anna B. Wilson Phillips.  He was a retired farm laborer.  Survivors include a sister, Bernice Range of Jamestown, N. Y., and a brother, Ralph Phillips of Thebes.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday at Rock Springs Baptist Church near Thebes.  The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday (Aug 23, 2007) at the church, with the Rev. Bruce Clubb officiating.  Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near Thebes.  Jones Funeral Home in Tamms, IL is in charge of arrangements.

Tamms, IL--LESTER PICKETT, JR., 84, of Tamms died Friday, April 4, 2008, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.  He was born on Nov. 12, 1923, in Benton, Ill., son of Lester and Anna Mae King Pickett Sr.  He and Sarah E. Lingle were married Aug. 13, 1962.  She died May 3, 1997.  Pickett was a retired investigator for the secretary of state.  He served in the U. S. Army during World War II.  He was a past master and district deputy of the Caledonia Lodge 47 AF&AM.  He was  a Shriner, a life member of the Mounds Post 8891, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge 587.  He was also a member of the Faternal Order of Police 95 and the Illinois Police Association.  He is survived by two daughters, Rae Ellen DeMarse of Burnsville, N. C. and Beverly Ann Welch of Tamms; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, James B. Pickett of Tamms.  He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.  The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. today (April 7, 2008) at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. Lacie Betts officiating.  Interment will be in St. Johns Cemetery.

Tamms, IL--LULA G. PICKETT, 82, of Tamms died Friday, June 27, 2008, at home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born Aug. 20, 1925 in Elco, Ill. to Charles C. and Rana Walters Raby.  She and James B. Pickett were married July 8, 1944.
Lula was a member of Elco Methodist Church.  Her kindness, generosity and love touched all who knew her.
Surviving is her loving husband of 63 years, James B.; three sons, James T. (Cathy) Pickett of St. Louis, Tony B. (Debbie) Pickett of Cape Girardeau, MO and Thomas A. (Lorita) Pickett of Tamms.  She lived to enjoy and love nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.  She is also survived by a brother, Don Raby of Elco; a sister, Esther Kemper of Eustis, Fla.; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson, Jared Thomas Pickett; three brothers, Walter, Albert and Clarence Raby; and two sisters, Wanda Hartline and Ruth Raby.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.  The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Raby officiating.  Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Delphos, OH.--MILDRED JORDAN PIERCE--May 26, 1918-Aug. 6, 2002--Funeral services for Mildred Jordan Pierce, 84, Hernando, FL, formerly of Lima, (OH) who died Aug. 6, will be 11 a.m. Monday at Elco Methodist Church. She was born May 25, 1918 in Elco, IL to Eugene and Eulah (Greer) Jordan. She married Homer Pierce, who died in 1986. Survivors include two sons, Michael L. Coffey of Dunnellon, FL, and Robert E. Coffey of Lima; a daughter, Mary Sue Walsh of Lima: a brother, Donald Jordan of Tamms, IL, two sisters, Martha Kaufman of Tulsa, OK, and Sue Ella Mowery of Tamms, IL; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. She was a former waitress. Thebes, IL.--MRS. JENNA LEE SIMPSON PINK, age 51, formerly of Alexander County died Saturday morning March 2, 1985 in a Fairfield Hospital. Mrs. Pink was born in Alexander County on March 23, 1933 to Walter Thomas Simpson and Lena Hewitt Simpson. She is survived by one son, Randy W. Pink of St. Louis Mo, three sisters, Bobbye Shafer of Thebes, Mary Jo Jaco of Cottage Hills and Judy Simpson of Centralia, IL. and a very close friend, Cecil Boyd of Mill Shoals, one half brother Walter Simpson of Wilmington, North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Mr. Harry Shockly Pink and one sister, Tommie Jean Crain, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Walter “Tommie” Simpson. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6 to 9pm at the Jones Funeral Home in Tamms. Graveside services will be Tuesday morning at 11 am in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes with the Rev. St. Peters, MO--ROBERT PODDIG, SR., 52, of St. Peters, died Wednesday (Feb. 16, 1994) at Barnes St. Peters Hospital. Mr. Poddig was a railroad conductor for the Illinois Railroad for 10 years.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at McCrite Cemetery in Diswood, Ill.
Among survivors are his wife, Betty J. Poddig of St. Peters; his stepmother, Frieda Poddig of Fenton; two daughters, Ruth Alice Hays of Patton, Mo., and Kathryn J. Poddig of St. Peters; three sons, Robert W. Poddig Jr. and Ronald J. Poddig, both of O'Fallon, and William W. Tamms, IL.--DONALD RAY POOLE, 59, of Tamms, Route 1, died Monday, January 10, 2000 at his home. He was born February 13, 1940 at Mill Creek, son of Manford and Effie Lorene Sims Poole. He and Joann Henderson were married November 3, 1962 in Dongola. Poole was a maintenance supervisor 29 years with Unimim Minerals Company in Elco. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Pulaski-Alexander County Ducks Unlimited in Olive Branch. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Donna Ledbetter of Tamms; two sons, Steven Poole of Wolf Lake and Scottie Poole of Tamms; a brother, Gene Poole of Lake of Egypt; three sisters, Wanda Goodin of Town Creek, Ala., Peggy Smith and Shelby Webb of McClure and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. Friends may call at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms after 5 p.m. today. Funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Dare Aden will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery near Dongola.

Goreville, IL.--EFFIE LORENE POOLE, 80, of Goreville, IL, formerly of Tamms, died Friday, Dec. 29, 1995 at Southeast Missouri Hospital, Cape Girardeau. She was born Nov. 19, 1915 in Elco, daughter of John and Lucy Pearl Brimm Sims. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manford James Poole on March 25, 1967; a sister, Virgie Rhymer; and three brothers, Bud, Bill and Fred Sims. She was a homemaker and a member of Tamms Pentecostal Church. She is survived by three sons, Gene of Goreville, Jimmie Lee and Donald Ray, both of Tamms; three daughters, Wanda Sue Goodwin of Town Creek, AL, Peggy E. Smith of McClure and Shelby Webb of Tamms; a brother, Conrad "Gene" Sims of Tamms; four sisters, Martha Baldwin of Anna, Cleta Poole of Mill Creek, Esther "Boots" Read of Tamms and Erma Shelton of Yuma, AZ; 20 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms and after 12:30 p.m. Sunday until the service at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tamms Pentecostal Church. The Rev. Vernon McClellan and the Rev. Johnnie B. Gibson will officiate. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery near Dongola.

 THEBES, ILL--LORRAINE POOLE, 89, of Thebes died Sunday, March 15, 2009 at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau, MO.  She was born Jan. 17, 1920 in Thebes, daughter of George Lee and Flora Jackson Mansfield.  She and George Edward Poole were married April 15, 1939.  He died Dec. 8, 1996.
Poole was a member of First Baptist Church in Thebes.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra "Sandy" Bedwell of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Dale Poole of Thebes, Dennis Poole of Patton, Mo.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Private funeral service was held Tuesday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. Larry Buckles officiating.  --Contributed by J. C. McNelly.

Tamms, IL.--Funeral services for MINNIE FAYE POOLE of Tamms will be held at 1 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms. The Rev. Johnnie Gibson will officiate, with burial in St. John's Cemetery. Poole, 71, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1996 at Union County Hospital in Anna. She was born Oct. 28, 1925 at Tamms, daughter of James and Amanda Fleener Benefield. She married Harley W. "Buddy" Poole. Poole retired from Florsheim Shoe Company in Anna in 1985. She attended Elco Pentecostal Church. Survivors include her husband; a brother, Virgil Benefield of Sandwich; a granddaughter and a great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a daughter, a son and a granddaughter.

Crosby, TX--ROBERT OLIVER POOLE, 83, of Crosby went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 18, 2006. He was born November 2, 1922, to Elmer Allen and Ester Marie (McCoy) Poole, in Tamms, Illinois. Robert proudly and honorably served his country for 20 years in the United States Air Force. He retired as a Master Sergeant on March 1, 1963. He was also retired from Baker Hughes, formerly Reed Tool Bit, as a manager of office service. He was also an active Mason. His greatest love was being with his family. He was an excellent cook and nothing pleased him more than to cook everyone's favorite meals. As the Lord and his loving wife hold his gentle hands now, so will we hold him in our hearts forever. Robert was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and a treasured friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, parents, 3 sisters, 2 brothers & son-in- law, Larry Casey.
He is survived by his sons, William Oliver Poole, Kenneth Wayne Poole and his wife, Delia, Thomas Ray Poole and his wife, Denise; daughters, Ester Marie "Bobbie" Casey, Sharon Eretta Massey and husband Duane, Carolyn Joyce Adams and husband Danny, Patricia Ann Mitchell and husband Mark; one brother and two sisters; 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 20, 2006 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will be held Friday, April 21, 2006, at 10 am at the Chapel of Crespo & Jirrels with Rev. David Pryor officiating. Interment to follow at Houston National Cemetery with full military honors. Cairo, IL.--SIDNEY J. POWERS, age 52 years, died at St. Mary's Hospital this morning at 1:30 o'clock.  Arrangements for the funeral which will be directed by Dan A. Sullivan, will be announced later, complete plans for the services not having been made today.
Surviving Mr. Powers are his widow, Mrs. Katie Powers, of St. Louis, and five children, Mrs. Floyd Conover, Raymond, Omer, Albert and Zelma, all of whom are with their mother in St. Louis.  He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Della Hancock of Cairo; a brother, James Powers, of Paducah, Ky., and several grandchildren and other relatives.  He lived in Diswood and formerly lived in Cairo.  --From The Cairo Evening Citizen and Bulletin, Friday, February 8, 1935, contributed by Anna Shelton.

CAIRO, Ill. - MARGUERITE E. PROFILET, 85, of Cairo died Thursday, May 22, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She was born in Cairo, was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Anna Stitchers Sewing Club and was a Gold Star Mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis E. Profilet in 1983; and a son, Robert Profilet in 1968.
Survivors include two sons, John Profilet of Anna, Ill., and Jim Profilet of Jackson, Mo.; 11 daughters, Mary Ann Eblen of Anna, Barbara Newbury of Helena, Ark., Pat Sullivan of White Pigeon, Mich., Marge Harper of Owensboro, Janet Burkstaller of Sarasota, Fla., Martha Ellen Lankheit of Charleston, Mo., Kay Wild of Pensacola, Fla., Sara Lancaster of Germantown, Tenn., Donna Fox of Union City, Tenn., Ginny Ponting of Lone Oak and Emilie Martin of Cairo; 35 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Walder of Peoria, Ill., and Bob Walder of Evansville; and two sisters, Rose Hughes of Jackson, Mo., and Mary Carter of Decatur, Ill.
Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Villa Ridge, Ill. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Sunday at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo. The rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

JAMES A. PROVO, aged 61, died Thursday morning from blood poisoning resulting from an accidental gun shot wound in the left hand. Mr. Provo was a son of the well-known Mark Provo, one of the oldest settlers of Alexander County, who was identified with the early history of the county. The deceased is survived by two sons, James and Alex, and two daughters, Mrs. Ivo Hazelwood and Bernice Provo. The county has lost an exemplary citizen and his surviving children a kind and indulgent father. His remains were laid to rest in the old Provo Cemetery two and one half miles south of Elco. -- From an article provided by Melvin Hazelwood (probably the Cairo Citizen.) Elco, IL.--MYRTLE PROVO, 87 years old, of Elco, died early today at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO. Mrs. Provo was a school teacher for 45 years. She was a member of the Elco Pentecostal Church. Surviving are a brother, George Palmer, Bessemer, AL; sister, Mrs. Lora Allen, Elco; two nieces and two nephews. The body is at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms where friends may call after 6 p.m. Saturday night. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Elco Pentecostal Church with Rev. John Gibson and the Rev. Greg Wheaton officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery near Dongola. (Note: From the Union County Cemetery Book-St. John's Cemetery--Myrtle Provo was born 28 February 1892 and died 15 February 1980. She is buried beside her husband, Alexander C. Provo, born 20 May 1895 and died 15 Aug 1954 at the Elco Pentecostal Church.)

 

Cairo, IL.--MRS. SADIE PURDIMAN, 50, of 314 1/2 33rd St., died at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday at Southeast Missouri Hospital at Cape Girardeau, Mo. after an extended illness.  She was a member of the Martin Temple CME Church. She is survived by her husband, Eugene Purdiman of Cairo, daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Word and Mrs. Ruby Johnson, both of Benton Harbor, Mich.; Mrs. Gloria Jean Kyles, Miss Willie Mae Purdiman, Miss Linda Purdiman and Miss Ruth Ann Purdiman, all of Cairo; sons, Willie Eugene Purdiman and James Edward Purdiman, both of Mounds, Riley Purdiman and Maurice Purdiman, all of Cairo; stepmother, Mrs. Lue Anna Hudson of Metropolis, brother Louis Hudson of Cleveland, Ohio; stepbrother, Robert Lee Martin of Metropolis, 39 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Saturday at the Ruffin Funeral Home, Cairo.  Service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Martin Temple CME Church with the Rev. W. M. Vaughn and the pastor, the Rev. Cairo, IL.--GEORGE WILLIAM PUTNICK, age 42, died at St. Mary's hospital Saturday at 1 p.m. as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident early Saturday morning. He is survived by his wife Edith, of 210 Eleventh street, his father, George W. Putnick, Sr. of Granite City, Ill.; four brothers, Stephen of Granite City, Frank of Jacksonville, Ill.; Joseph of Chicago and Walter of the U. S. Armed Forces in Africa; one sister, Mrs. Stephen Penoff of Granite City; a nephew, Harry Penoff of Granite City, and other relatives. Mr. Putnick was a veteran of World War I, enlisting in the Marines at the age of 15. The remains are at the Berbling Funeral Home, where friends may call. Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Redeemer Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. S. L.
