TO MY SISTER

Poems to friends are quiet the thing--
Odes on how he kissed her--
But few people stop to sing
Praises of a sister.

I have one I want to tell
all the world about,
can't say all I'd like, but, well,
She is some good scout!

Course we are not angels yet,
We may have a spat,
But she'll pardon, and forget--
Sisters are like that!

Friends are treasures, I'll admit
Both kinds--"miss" and "mister,"
But I think they're not a bit
Nicer than a sister.

H.L.B.

(Note: This tribute showed his admiration of his younger sister, Olive M. Beasley. She is pictured below on the left with their other sister, Minnie on the right. Ollie was born Nov. 30, 1898 and Minnie was born Aug. 8, 1900. The picture was taken in 1916.)
