THEBES SCHOOL

This was the high school and grade school. It was a three story school, with the high school in the top floor. The seventh grade was at the top left with the eighth at the far right top window. Second grade was on the floor below the seventh and the first grade was on the far right, the room under the 8th grade. There was a large hall in the middle and stairs at the back went to the other floors. Ms. Lula Clutts was one of the teachers that taught there.
1944 Thebes Freshman Class had the following members: Pansy Bailey, Blanche Bledsoe, Eugene Brown, Juanita Burns, Eleanor Cossiboom, Elsie Marie Denton, Edna Dunn, Ray Fisher, Helen Foutch, Leila Goski, Cecile Hopkins, Walter Pedigo, Bobby Robertson, Eugene Roseman, Davey Lee Rothrock, Eugene Simpson, Mary Jo Simpson, Tommy Jean Simpson, Pearl Thompson, Earl Wilmoth, Charles Wilson, Imogene Wilson, Irene Wilson, and Virginia Wilson. --Contributed by J. C. McNelly.
2005--The Thebes school is now being demolished. The EPA is taking it out because of asbestos.

2009--Guy Gammon, who is 93 years old and lives in La Verne, Cal. was in the 1934 graduating class. His picture of the school is much clearer. He stated that beside the school was the tennis court . Then down lower was the gymnasium for basketball. From the school to the gym there was a tunnel with heat pipes. He said that he crawled through this tunnel a couple of times. He had lots of memories from here. (This information from Mr. Gammon was sent by Tess D. Ford, whose mother, Celestia Sowders, was in the same class as Mr. Gammon-1934.
