Washington School was an all-black school in Cairo, located where the Bennett School was later built. Following is a list of teachers at Washington School from the 1940s. In 1950 a new Junior High School was opened. Mr. Mathews moved to the new school as principal and was also principal of the 8th grade at Washington. He later moved to become principal at Sumner High School. Ms. Pattie Cole also taught at both Washington and Sumner.
