Goreville, IL--MARIETTA YAKSTIS, 62, of Goreville died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at Sea Grove Beach, FL.  She was born Jan. 12, 1941, in Elco, Ill., daughter of Elmer and Ethel Engleman Butler.  
Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Carroll of Tampa, FL; a son, Donald Yakstis of Carbondale, IL; her mother of Jonesboro, IL; two brothers, Wayne Butler of Dongola, IL; Ed Butler of Centralia, IL; a sister, Elsie Butler of Metropolis, IL; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna after 10 a.m. Friday.  The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tim Sadler officiating.  Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

East Cape Girardeau, IL.--VERN FRANKLIN YATES, 54, of East Cape, formerly of Miller City, died in his sleep this morning at his home. He was a life long resident of Alexander County, influential leader in the Democratic party and presently serving as Circuit Clerk. Survivors are his widow Effie, two sons, Meredith, Carswell Air Force Base, New York; and Michael Yates, St. Louis: one sister, Isetta Schrand, Cairo; two brothers, Lawrence of Miller City and Foster, Chattanooga Tenn.: one grandson and other relatives. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Ryan Funeral Home, Mounds. Funeral services for Vern Franklin Yates, 65, who died Tuesday morning will be conducted at 1:30 pm in the Ryan Funeral Home, Mounds by the Rev. Verlee Eakers, Anna. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens, Villa Ridge. Visitation at the Funeral Home is after 1 pm Thursday....donated by Judy Simpson.

Cairo, IL.--WILLIAM D. YOUNG, age 56 years who resided with his stepson, Charles Grable, 3806 Commercial avenue, died in Anna this morning.  The body was brought to Karcher Brothers' funeral home where services will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock.  The Rev. W. H. Walker, pastor of the First Christian church, will officiate at the services.  Burial will be made in Spencer Heights cemetery.
Mr. Young is survived by his stepson, Mr. Grable; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Beach of Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. Mary Hopkins of Paragould, Ark.  His wife died April 10, 1930.  --From The Cairo Evening Citizen and Bulletin, Friday, February 8, 1935, contributed by Anna Shelton.
