Helen E. Underwood age 86 of Mt. Sterling passed away at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 2004 at her residence.
She was born July 23, 1918 in Brown County, Illinois the daughter of Anthony and Emily Wort Busen. She married Milburn Lozelle Mib Underwood on October 15, 1941 at St. Joseph s Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling and he preceded her in death on September 15, 2000.
Mrs. Underwood was a homemaker and earlier in life she worked at West Grocery Store in Mt. Sterling and had also worked as a clerk for several area livestock auctions.
She attended White Oak School in Brown County and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling. Mrs. Underwood enjoyed drinking coffee with her friends and playing cards, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Survivors include 2 children Janet Wort and her husband Francis of Deer Creek, Illinois and Connie Kunkel and her husband Rick of Mt. Sterling. 1 brother Richard Busen and his wife Norma of Mt. Sterling. 1 sister Dorothy Ham of Mt. Sterling. 5 grandchildren Doug Wort and his wife Robin of Bloomington, Illinois, Don Wort and his wife Kathy of Peoria, Illinois, David Wort and his wife Connie of Washington, Illinois, Richie Kunkel of Mt. Sterling and Kara Kunkel of Versailles. 9 great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 brothers Donald Busen and Norbert Busen.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2004 in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling with Father Thomas Henseler officiating.
Burial will be in the Hersman Cemetery south of Mt. Sterling.
Friends may call any time after 4 on Tuesday with the family meeting friends from 6 until 8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call from 8:00 until 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

DEER CREEK - Milburn L. ''Mib'' Underwood, 82, of Mount Sterling, the father of a Deer Creek woman, died at 9:20 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, at his residence. Born Feb. 11, 1918, in Cooperstown Township, Brown County, to Neil and Maude Logsdon Underwood, he married Helen Elizabeth Busen on Oct. 15, 1941, in Mount Sterling. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Janet (and Francis) Wort of Deer Creek and Connie (and Rick) Kunkel of Mount Sterling; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Hendricker Funeral Home in Mount Sterling. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight and from 8 to 11 a.m.
Monday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hersman Cemetery in Hersman.

MOUNT STERLING - Milburn L. "Mib" Underwood, 82, of Mount Sterling died Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, in his home. He was born Feb. 11, 1918, in Cooperstown Township, the son of Neil and Maude Logsdon Underwood. He married Helen Elizabeth Busen in 1941 in Mount Sterling. Mr. Underwood was a farmer and had worked at several area sale barns for many years.
He had also worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation for snow removal and the Brown County Highway Department. He attended Hazel Dell School in Brown County and was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of the Brown County Farm Bureau. Survivors: wife, Helen; two daughters, Janet (husband, Francis) Wort of Deer Creek and Connie (husband, Rick) Kunkel of Mount Sterling; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Hendricker Funeral Home in Mount Sterling, the Rev. John Kennedy officiating. Burial: Hersman Cemetery. (contrib. by Sara Hemp)
