Seaman Arthur G. Adams Son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Adams, born at Lanark, Illinois February 24, 1897; volunteered for service in the U. S. Navy April 13,1918 at Great Lakes, Illinois.

1st Class Private John R. Atherton Son of Don. F. Atherton, born at Lanark, Illinois December 10, 1891; inducted for service at Lanark, Illinois September 5, 19 17; served 15 months overseas with 39th Infantry and participated in the Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne Offensives. Was gassed in the Meuse-Argonne. Served in the Army of Occupation at Coblenz, Germany.

Bugler Frank A. Baumgardner Son of Daniel E. and Louise Stitzel Baumgardner, born at Lanark, Illinois December 1894; inducted for service at Mt. Carroll, Illinois September 19th, 1917; served overseas 11 months with Co. L. 39th Infantry; participated in the following engagements: Vesle, Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne Offensives. Was quite badly gassed during action.


Sergeant George Clifford Bender Son of John H. and Mary Bender, born at Lanark, Illinois August 1, 1887; inducted for service at Mt. Carroll, Illinois in September 1917; served in wagon Co. A. R. D. No. 325 of the Quartermaster Corps at Houston, Texas.

Harold Bender son of John H. and Mary Bender born at Chadwick volunteered for service March 16, 1918 at Freeport, Illinois. At present serving in the Army of Occupation at Germany for the past 3 months in Co I 50th Infantry.

1st Lt Walter Bender, son of John H. & Mary Bender, born at Lanark, IL March 25 1886; volunteered for service in the Regular Army March 18 1902, served in the Infantry & Cavalry and Military Instructor at Harvard University; served overseas 26 months, made Commander of 5th Aero Squadron and is an American Ace, having official credit of bringing down 7 German planes, in the Chateau Thierry, Cantigny and Meuse-Argonne battles. Decorated with Croix de Guerre and received shrapnel wound in Air battle in Meuse Argonne.

Bowman, born at Lanark, Illinois December 12, 1893; inducted for service at Savanna, Illinois May 5, 1918; served 13 months overseas with 47th Infantry, 4th Division and participated in the St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne battles. Corporal Zernie Raymond Brenaman Son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Brenaman, born at Lanark, Illinois May 9, 1896; inducted for service at Savanna, Illinois May 24, 1918; served with 304th Cavalry and 54th Field Artillery.

Leslie M. Brooke Son of America and Sarra Brooke, born near Milledgeville, Illinois in 1886; volunteered at Upland, Indiana, from Taylor University and served 6 months overseas with the 152nd Ambulance Co., 113th Sanitary Train.

Cadet Loren Buffington Son of Frank and Rebecca Howe Buffington, born at Lanark, Illinois February 4, 1897; volunteered for service in the Canadian Forces at Winnipeg, Canada in May 1917; served overseas 2 years and 4 months in Medical Corps, Machine Gun Battalion, and then as a Cadet in the Royal Air Forces. Also suffered shell shock.



Corporal Howard H. Burkhart Son of Harry J. and Clara A. Burkhart, born at Lanark, Illinois March 26, 1893; inducted for service at Mt. Carroll, Illinois October 5, 1917; served overseas with Co. G. 131st Infantry, 33rd Division; participating in the following engagements: Capture of Hammel July 4th, Somme and Meuse-Argonne Offensives.

1st Sergeant Waldo Emmerson Burkhart Son of Harry J. and Clara Burkhart, born at Lanark, Illinois February 9, 1895; inducted fofr service at Mt. Carroll, Illinois September 5, 1917; served overseas 4 months with Co. I. 342nd Inft., 68 Division.

Homer Wolf Butterbaugh Son of Harry and Emma Butterbaugh, born at Lanark, Illinois in 1899; volunteered for Students Army Training Corp at the University Of Illinois in October 1918.







Howard G. Byers Son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Byers, born at Chambers Grove, Illinois February 21, 1894; inducted for service at Sterling, Illinois; overseas 11 months and served in the Army of Occupation.

Sergeant John Donald Chisholm Son of Mr. and Mrs. Roderick Chisholm, born at Lanark, Illinois December 1896; volunteered for service May 15, 1918 at Camp Custer, Michigan; served with 48 Co., 160 Depot Brigade at Camp Custer, later at Central Officers Training School at Camp Grant.

1st Lieutenant Ralph Lewellyn Clark Son of John E. and Jennie Clark, born at Elizabeth, Illinois March 5, 1892, volunteered for service from Lanark, Illinois in August 1917; served with 130th Base Hospital at Camp Shelby, Miss., also at Medical Officers Training Camp at Ft. Oglethorpe, Georgia.




Cook Clarence William Clay Son of Alfred S. and Louisa Clay, was born in Carroll County, Illinois August 9, 1891; inducted for service in 1917; serving overseas in Camp at England for 14 months.

Private 1CL Herman Glenn Coffman Son of Mrs. Lydia Anna Coffman, born at Mt. Carroll, Illinois April 2, 1895; induced for service at Mt. Carroll, Illinois October 3, 1917, served with Co. I. 342nd Infantry, A. R. D. 325 Field Rmount Squadron 304 and A. R. D. 333.

Sergeant Jere Edgar Crist Son of Amos W. and Mary E. Crist, born at Chambersburg, PA., September 12, 1893; inducted for service at Savanna, Illinois January 6, 1918; served with Co. E. 68th Infantry, 9th Division.







Private Charles Crouse Son of Mrs. J. W. Crouse of Lanark, Ill. Born at Winslow, Ill. April 2, 1893. Inducted into the service at Mt. Carroll, Ill. May 25, 1918. Served in 54th Field Artillery, 18th Division. Died in service at Camp Travis, San Antonio, Texas, October 28, 1918 of pneumonia.

Private John Crouse, Jr. Son of J. W. and Kathryn Crouse, born at Gratiot, Wisconsin August 16, 1887; induced for service at Savanna, Illinois February 20, 1918; served 15 months overseas with the 19th railroad engineers. Served in the Army of Occupation at Coblenz, Germany.
