Sergeant Claude DeVaughn Volunteered in April 1917. Served overseas 18 months with U. S. Marines, 2nd Division and participated in the following engagements: Marboche Sector, St. Mihiel, Champagne and Meuse-Argonne. Marched to the Rhine and served in Army of Occupation at Neuwied, Germany.

Pvt. 1CL Thomas Hobert Diffenderfer Son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard M. Diffenderfer, born at Williamson, Pa., March 12, 1896; induced for service at Greencastle, PA September 19, 1917; served overseas 10 months with Supply Co. 316th Infantry, 79th Division; participated in the following engagements: Meuse-Argonne Offensive, Troyon Sector, Grand Montaam Offensive.

Private Everett Burge Dorland Son of Seth and Sadie Dorland, born at Cecil, Kansas September 14, 1893; inducted for service at Oregon, Illinois June 21, 1918; served overseas 9 months with Headquarters Co. 344 Infantry, 86 Division.






Captain Glenn W. Dresbach Son of William H. and Belle M. Dresbach, born in Salem Township, Illinois September 9, 1889; volunteered for service September 9, 1917, at Deming, Camp Code, New Mexico. Served with Medical Supply Depot.

Joseph J. Delp Son of George W. and Mae E. Delp, born at Pearl City, Illinois August 22, 1898; volunteered for Student Army Training Corp (University of Illinois) October 1, 1918, Urbana, Illinois.

Private LaPierre Eastabrook Son of Silas and Alice Ward Eastabrook, born at Milledgeville, Illinois August 23, 1886; inducted for service at Camp Grant, Illinois October 3, 1917; serving his enlistment in the U. S. with 342nd Regiment Infantry.





Corporal Daniel B. Eckman Son of Mr. & Mrs. J. T. Eckman, born at Lanark, IL June, 1895; inducted for service at Camp Grant, Illinois October 3, 1917; served overseas 1 year with Co. G. 131st Infantry, 33rd Division; participated in the following engagements: Capture of Hamel July 4th, Somme Ofensive (Albert-Baizeux), Meuse-Argonne. Served in the Army of Occupation in Luxembourg.

2nd Lieutenant Clarence G. Elmer Son of Henry and Louise Elmer, born at Lanark, Illinois February 8, 1889; volunteered for service August 27, 1917 at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois; served overseas 18 months with Co. A. 2nd Ammunition Train and 9th Infantry, 2nd Division; participating in the Verdun, Troyon Sector, St. Mihiel, Marbach and Meuse-Argonne battles, being decorated with D. S. C. in last named battle for bravery in action. Served in Army of Occupation at Bendorf and Dierforf, Germany.

Private Harry W. Engles Son of Joseph F. and Grace E. Engles, born at Lanark, Illinois October 22, 1898; volunteered for service at Savanna, Illinois October 11, 1918 and attended Radio School of the Signal Corps.






Private Randall H. Ford Son of Walter G. and Minnie I. Ford, born at Lanark, Illinois July 19, 1898; volunteered for service July 11, 1918 at Chicago, Illinois and served in the Air Forces at San Antonia, Texas.

Sergeant Ralph Stanley Gibbs Son of John E. and Elva I. Gibbs, born at Lanark, Illinois; volunteered for service at Chicago, Illinois May 17, 1917; served overseas 14 months with the Heavy Field Artillery, 4th Division; participated in the following engagements: Aisne-Marne, Veale Sector, Toulon Sector, St. Mihiel and Meuse-Argonne Offensives. Served in the Army of Occupation at Neuwied, Germany.

Wagoner Fred Hotchkiss Garner Son of Mr. and Mrs. William Garner, born at Lanark, Illinois March 4, 1895; induced for service at Lanark, Illinois September 19, 1917; served overseas 4 ½ months with Co. I. 342nd Infantry, 171st Brigade Headquarters and Co. D. 311 Ammunition Train, 86th Division.



Corporal James Madison Garner Son of Mr. and Mrs. William Garner, born at Lanark, Illinois May 3, 1896; inducted for service at Savanna, Illinois June 1, 1918; served with Co. E. 46th Infantry, 9th Division.

Mechanic Boyd M. Garns Son of Jacob Harry Garns, born at Upton, PA June 1892; inducted for service May 23, 1918 at Freeport, Illinois; served overseas with 149 Infantry machine Gun Co., 163 Infantry Machine Gun Co., and 323 Infantry Machine Gun Co., participating in the Meuse-Argonne battle. Overseas 9 months

Private Harry W. Greenawalt Son of Frank A. and Anna Mary Teeter Greenawalt, born at Lanark, Illinois June 8, 1888; induced for service at Dubuque, Iowa June 1, 1918; served at Camp Hattisville, Mississippi and at the time of Discharge was attending Officers Training School.





Private 1 CL Percy F. Greenawalt Son of Frank A. and Anna Mary Teeter Greenawalt, born at Lanark, Illinois January 28, 1894; volunteered for service at Des Moines, Iowa June 7, 1917; served 10 months overseas with the Medical Corps and was attached to the 109th Engineers at La Guerche, France.

Sergeant Charles E. Hammond Son of Charles B. and Agnes S. Hammond, born at Lanark, Illinois June 17, 1894; inducted for service July 10, 1918, served with Engineers, Headquarters Department, Camp Humphreys, Virginia.

Musician George Elliott Hammond Son of Charles B. and Agnes S. Hammond, born at Lanark, Illinois June 21, 1896; volunteered for service in the U. S. Navy at Chicago, Illinois, May 26, 1918.







Sergeant Llewelyn John Hartman Son of Louis and Matie Hartman, born at Chicago, Illinois November 26th, 1895; inducted for service at Lanark, Illinois September 18, 1917; served overseas 16 months in Co. A. 342 Infantry and Co. K. 58th Infantry, participating in the following engagements: Aisne-Marne, Vesle River, St. Mihiel, and Meuse-Argonne Offensives. Transport on which Sgt. Hartman went overseas torpedoed May 23rd, 1918. Decorated with Croix de Guerre. Served in Army of Occupation at Coblenz, Germany

2nd Lieutenant Francis L. Harwood Son of Mr. and Mrs. Anna (Laird) Harwood; volunteered in June 1917 at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois; served in 1st Battalion Depot Brigade, Camp Devens, Mass.

Captain Earl L. Hendricks Son of B. F. & Lillian Hendricks, born at Rock Falls, IL March 7, 1880; volunteered for service at Chicago, IL June 14, 1918. Served at Base Hospital, Camp Custer, MI, Base Hospital No. 6 A. E. F., Bordeaux, France and Headquarters 89th Division. Overseas service 8 months. Served in Army of Occupations in Headquarters 89th Division at Kyllburg, Germany.

3CL Quartermaster Paul B. Hepfer Son of Harry and Cora Hepfer, born at Lanark, Illinois November 7, 1897; volunteered for service in the Navy at Chicago, November 15, 1917; served on transports U. S. S. Lenope and U. S. S. Santa Teresa, making six round trips from New York to France.
