The Methodist Episcopal church of Lanark was organized largely by members composing the original Georgetown class, and of this number three only are today members of this church, namely: N. Fagan, Nrs. J. G. Shller and Miss Mary Frazey. This church was organized about 1861. The old structure then stood in the cemetery, which was then also held in trust by the church trustees. Afterward the building was moved into the center of the thriving young village, and later sold to the Abrahamic society. In 1870 the present brick edifice was built at a cost exceeding twenty thousand dollars. Rev. R. A. Blanchard was the Presiding Elder of the district, and Rev. Thomas Cochran, pastor of the church. The corner stone of the building was laid by the Rev. S. A. W. Jewett D.D., and the dedicatory sermon was preached by the Rev. R. M. Hatfield, D.D. All of these honored men have years ago passed to their reward.

Of these pastors, five have died, six are superannuated, two are employed in benevolent work outside the denomination, one has been expelled from the church, one has withdrawn from the church and only two are engaged in the active ministry.
