JOHN LOGAN BUCKWALTER

John Logan Buckwalter & Clara (Gordon) Buckwalter

Rev. John Logan Buckwalter was born 10 Sep 1863 in Woodland Township, Carroll County, Illinois to Samuel and Eliza Ann Stouffer Buckwalter. His early years were spent on the family farm where he grew to manhood and attended Woodland School.

He married Clara Belle Gordon; daughter of Henry H. and Mary Jane McLaughlin Gordon in Mt Carroll, Carroll County, Illinois on 26 Aug 1891.

John Logan served as a minister of the United Brethren Church at Arlington, Iowa, which was his first pastorate in 1891. He moved to Rock River Conference in 1895 serving at Adeline, Illinois; Leaf River, Illinois; Kent, Illinois; Centerhill, Carroll County, Illinois; Woodland Brethren Church, Carroll County, Illinois and retiring at Mt Carroll, Illinois where he spent 21 years. In 1931, while serving at Claytonville, Illinois, he suffered a stroke in which he never fully recovered. The Claytonville congregation was on the circuit of churches he had in his charge and visited several times a year; as was Appleton, Knox County, Illinois.

Rev. Buckwalter also served as Secretary on the Preacher's Aid Board and made trips to Indiana on business as he was also affiliated with Huntington College there.

During his marriage he and Clara had the following children: Bert Gordon (m. Hazel Mae Yenney); Edith J. (m. Ben Smith); Mary Elizabeth (m. Winsel McGrath); Ethyle L. (m. Ralph Morrow); Fern (m. Walter Miller); Jessie A. (m. Marion Schreiner); Glenn John (m. Edith Colebaugh).

Rev. John Logan Buckwalter died 4 Aug 1932 at his home in Mt.Carroll, Illinois and is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt Carroll, Illinois

Clara Belle Gordon was born 14 Aug 1867 in Woodland Twp., Carroll Co., Illinois and departed this life 4 Feb 1927 in Mt Carroll, Illinois and is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt Carroll County, Illinois
