Nelson Rinedollar

The Nelson Rinedollar Home is a beautiful White Frame Italianate home that was built in 1876. The home is located at 306 South Main Street in Mt. Carroll IL and is now on the National Register.

Nelson was born 12 October 1838 in Lowen, Franklin Co. Pennsylvania, the son of Nancy (Adair) and John C. Rinedollar, Sr. John Rinedollar Sr, was born 9 October 1838 in PA, and died in Mt. Carroll 26 September 1897. John and his wife Nancy arrived in Carroll County about 1848. Nelson would have been about 10 years old at the time of the migration to IL.

He enlisted in the Civil War as a Private on 14 August 1862, joining Company I, 92nd Infantry Regiment Illinois on 04 September 1862. He was promoted to Full Hospital Steward on 11 April 1864. Discharged for promotion Company I, 92nd Infantry Regiment Illinois on 11 April 1864.

After the war Nelson attended the Chicago Medical College and upon completion of his educaton he married Susan E. Austin on the 6th of May 1869 in Carroll County. Susan was born 15 June 1847 in Mt. Carroll the daughter of Joseph and Ann (Nourse) Austin. Susan died 14 May 1914. The only child I can find a record of at this time is Flavius Rinedollar born 16 September 1870 in Carroll County.

Both Nelson and Susan are buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Carroll County.

Nelson Rinedollar last appears on the 1920 Census of Carroll County at the age of 81. He was living alone on Main St. The census was enumerated on January 9, 1920.
