CHARLES SHORE

Charles Shore, son of Dorothea Dodds Shore and Daniel Shore was born on a farm two and one-half miles north of Shannon. His paternal grandparents came from Pennsylvania and his mother's parents from Scotland and England. Grandfather Andrew Dodds emigrated from Scotland to America in 1831 and eventually settled in Galena. Mr. Dodds walked from Galena to Dixon to obtain the land grant to the farm north of Shannon which he farmed and where Mr. Shore's parents later farmed. This piece of land still belongs to the Shore family.

Mr. Shore graduated from Shannon High School in 1899 after which he taught in a rural school and also served as a rural mail carrier. He began his hardware career in 1903 and has continued in this business for over 65 years. In 1906 he married Clara Bolinger who passed away in 1955. They had one daughter, Mrs. Duane Winters, one granddaughter Mrs. Dean Kromm and one great granddaughter Karla.

For the past one and one-half years, Mr. Shore has been in ill health and has not been able to be active in the hardware store. He is a member of the Lions Club, the Masons, and the United Methodist Church.
