MELVIN CONRAD STRAUB

Melvin Conrad Straub was born November 1, 1896 in FairHaven Township to Christian and Katharina (Daehler) Straub, both deceased. Melvin married Dorothy Eltheda Ferris, the daughter of Charles H. and Minnie (Steinhagen) Ferris, both deceased. Dorothy was born May 13, 1905 in Whiteside County, Illinois and died October 28, 1966 at the Sterling Community Hospital. Melvin was educated in the Chadwick schools, and served in the AEF Quartermaster Corps, France, World WarT. He has resided in the same house in Chadwick since December 1898 and has been in the construction business Chadwick for the 62 years. Melvin's hobbies are hunting, fishing and trapping.

Melvin and Dorothy were the parents of two children: Marjorie, wife of James R. Glacking, teacher at Lake Forest, Ill. John in construction business resides with his wife and three children in Chadwick. Katharina Straub, mother of Melvin was the granddaughter of two pioneer German settlers of this county (Johann Konrad Daehler and Henry Zugschwer.

In 1939 she was honored by serving as Representative of all Pioneers at Pioneer Centennial program at Milledgeville High School on Feb. 22, 1939. Katharina's husband Christian was custodian of the Chadwick Schools for 33 years. They were the parents of four children: Mrs. William (Anna) Lewis of Sarasota, Fla., William F. deceased, Mrs. Donald (Clara) Clarke, deceased and Melvin.
