A pathetic incident located this cemetery. One day among the passengers which the stage brought was a young lady. When the stage left she remained in the Chambers Home. She was found one day weeping bitterly and when urged to tell her trouble she gave this touching answer, "No, no, I am nameless, homeless and friendless. Let my trouble and my secret be buried with me." And thus hers was the first grave and it was made near the place to which she often went to give vent to her grief. She died in 1839 in the Chambers Home. In 1844 Charles Franks bought the Chambers claim and later he deeded this acre for burial purposes leaving a roadway twenty feet wide from the cemetery to the Old Galena road some thirty rods west.

Some time back information came to my attention that George & Margaret Bingaman were actually buried at Fairmont Cemetery in Ogle County and they are also suppose to have been bured at the Carroll County Champers Grove Cemetery. This can't be proven or disproved as the names are listed in both cemeteries.

In October 2006 Kris Gilbert walked and transcribed the Chambers Grove Cemetery in Ogle County IL. There are two Chambers Grove Cemeteries, this one in Ogle County and the one here in Carroll County. The Ogle County cemetery is within 1/4 mile of the Carroll County line. It is located on Chambers Grove Road just north of the Brookville Lutheran Cemetery.
