GEORGE ZUGSCHWERDT
- The body of the late George Zugschwerdt of Kansas City arrived in Chadwick this morning at 6 o’clock with an escort of brother Knights Templar from the Kansas City lodge, and five brother engineers. The time for the funeral has not yet been set, but it will be held either Saturday [02/01/1913] or Sunday. The facts as to how Mr. Zugschwerdt met his death are as follows: He was the engineer of a trailing engine, and shortly after crossing a high bridge, the fireman noticed that he was missing. He signaled the engine ahead to stop, but could not make it do so, and then pulled the air brake, which stopped the engine. They went back to the bridge and found the body of Zugschwerdt hanging from the trestle work. The supposition is that while crossing the bridge he put his head out of the cab window, and it was caught by the trestle work of the bridge, and his body dragged out of his cab. He was dead when the train crew reached him.
