To The
Spencer-Benham Family Reunions

September 5, 1901

The fourth annual reunion of the descendants of Naaman and Diantha Spencer (nee Benham) was held at the home of Mrs. Clarinda Case in Eagle. Point on Thursday, September 5, 1901. Ninety-four registered their names but there were more than that number, there, who were too busy visiting to take time to register.

Among those from a distance were: Mrs, John Woodin of Clarion, Iowa; Capt. E.T. Becker and wife, Mt. Carroll; Mrs. Willis Davison and son, Dallas, Hampton, Iowa; Mrs. Josephine Woodin; Mrs. Geo. A. Root and daughter, Lanark; John Zook and family, Mt. Carroll; S.W. Spencer and son, Henry Dorman and wife, John Case Frisbee and family and A. Myers and wife, Freeport; E.R. Spencer and family, and Mrs. Eveline Hegeman and family, Chadwick; Fred Booth and family, Jos. Wood and family, Mrs. Ed Layton, Chas. Spencer and family, John Coffey and family, Mrs. Emeline Russel and daughters, Milledgeville; Mrs. Candace L. Fellows, Chicago; James H. Asay and Guy Asay and family, Mt. Carroll; Henry Marks and wife, Lanark; John Riggs and family, Mrs. J.I. Krebbs, Mrs. M.E. Ripley, Polo; Edmund Dale and family, Naaman Spencer and family, Wesley Schriner and family, Elkhorn Grove.

The oldest member is Allen Benham Spencer, the youngest at the date of the reunion was Celia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Spencer of Milledgeville.

The Eagle Point Light Guard Band was present throughout the day and made old Elkhorn Grove ring with music. Two rocking chairs and one revolving office chair were brought upon the grounds at one p.m. and in behalf of the donors, E.R. Spencer presented them to Mrs. Clarinda Case, Miss Orpha Case, and Elmer Case, as mementos of their love and esteem.

Letters were read from E.P. Spencer, New Hartford, Conn.; Mrs. Angeline Rubendall, Julian, Kansas; Mrs. Amanda Browning, Towanda, Penn.; and from Uncle Jimmy and Minnie Brown of Elkhorn Grove. The latter calls to mind the kindly words and smiling face of Naaman Spencer of forty years ago. Uncle Jimmie and his family were fugitive slaves at that time.

E.R. Spencer of Chadwick was elected president, and Henry Elsey of Eagle Point, secretary and treasurer. Notice of time and place of next meeting will be published in due time. The thanks of the association is due to J.P. Hunter for the use of the tables and chairs from Hunter's Hall, and to the Light Guard Band for music.
