Spencer-Benham Family Reunions

June 13, 1971

The 101st Annual Reunion of the descendants of Naaman and Diantha Benham Spencer was held Sunday, June 13th, at the Schell Park in Milledgeville. Nearly 100 relatives and friends partook of a delicious picnic dinner and festivities.

Those present for this event were from Dixon, Sterling, Bensenville, Tampico, Milledgeville, Morrison, Shannon, Lyndon, Minonk, Rock Falls, LaGrange, Polo, Kent, Thomson, Chadwick, Elizabeth and Stockton, Ill., also from Racine and Oshkosh, Wis.; and Pine River, Minn.

The meeting was called to order by the president, Don Peterson. The Pledge to the Flag followed. Benediction was offered by Ralph Witt of Bensenville. The group joined in singing "God Bless America," led by Gail Spencer of Milledgeville.

The oldest member present, Mrs. Ruth Hunt, 77, descendant of both the Spencer-Benham families, presented the silver spoon to the youngest member, Daniel Witt, son of Ralph and Judy Bruns Witt, Judy being the daughter of Glenn Bruns, Glenn being the son of Hazel Spencer Bruns.

All officers were retained for the coming year, and are as follows: President, Don Peterson of LaGrange, vice president, Gary Garland, Sterling; secretary-treasurer, Vada Waites of Elizabeth.

It was reported that Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Spencer of Rock Falls had four generations at both the 1970 and 71 reunions.

Games with prizes and ice cream cones followed the business meeting, Musical entertainment was given by Janet Edwards, Betty Scykes, Bonnie Schleuning, Lenna Spencer, Teena Wagenknecht, Jill Bruns, Barbara and Pamela Waites and Ralph Witt, was enjoyed by all. (Also Debbie Johnson).

The reunion for 1972 will be held again at Schell Park in Milledgeville the second Sunday in June, and in the event of bad weather, will be held in the Grange Hall.
