The 102nd annual reunion of the descendants of Naaman and
Diantha Benham Spencer was held Sunday, June 11th, 1972 at
Schell Park in Milledgeville. Approximately 100 relatives and
friends enjoyed a delicious picnic dinner.
The business meeting was called to order by vice president,
Gary Garland of Sterling. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by
Ralph Witt of Elmhurst and then everyone sang "God Bless
America." Bonnie Schleuning of Elizabeth read the secretary-
treasurers report. After the reading of names of births,
deaths and weddings, and those serving in the military
services, an announcement was made that Mrs, Grace Peterson
of Racine, Wis., and Mrs. Vada Waites of Elizabeth are now
members of the Daughters of the American Revolution and any
member of the family wishing more information should contact
them.
The oldest member present, Mrs. Alta Druce of Chadwick,
is a direct descendant of both the Spencer and the Benham
families. Mrs Druce then carried on a tradition established
in 1902 by giving Meghan Elizabeth Spencer a silver spoon.
Eight-week-old Meghan was the youngest member present and is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Spencer of Port Byron.
New officers were elected and they are Ralph Witt of
Elmhurst, president: Mrs. Dorothy Bruns of Kent, vice
president, and Mrs. Judy Witt of Elmhurst, secretary-
treasurer. The 1973 reunion will be held on the second Sunday
of June in Schell Park.
A softball game and social hour concluded a very pleasant
afternoon.
