Wysox, in the southeast section of Carroll
county, is one of the banner townships agriculturally with many of the county's most
productive farms. Its story revolves around
the only major settlement in the township.
Milledgeville, with a population of 1208, and
assessed valuation on the county's tax books
of $3,543,730. Wysox was named after a town
of that name in Pennsylvania from which
came many of its first settlers, according to
the 1913 history of Carroll county.
The township's assessed valuation for 1966
was $l0,173.560, 4.7 per cent over the year
before: its population 1,788 which indicates
that only 580 or less than one-third of the
township's people are living on the farm.
However, the 1960 census of 1,788 compares
with 1,672 in 1950 and 1,472 in 1940 which
indicates a gain of more than 20 per cent in
20 years.
