Phillip Jacob Wolfley, the father of James, was born in Lancaster PA on 10 October 1810 and died in Carroll Co IL on
21 May 1902. His wife was Matilda Richner born 30 June 1820 in PA, died in Carroll County 4 August 1896.
Both are buried in the Lanark Cemetery, as are James and his wife Emma Mary.
From the website of Stan Hendershot on World Connect he writes, "Phillip signed his name as Jacob Wolfley. In 1850 he moved by wagon to JoDaviess County, Ill., spent 1 year and then bought land near Jacobsville, 4 miles west of Mount Carroll. He worked for a few years as a carpenter and then opened a weaving shop, which he continued to run until he was no longer physically able. About 1890 he sold his farm and moved to Lanark, Ill., where he lived until the death of his wife and then moved in with his oldest daughter. He was blind for the last 5 years of his life."
The shop, long gone now, and the adjacent house were located on Broad Street in Lanark,
just north of what is now Highway 52/64. The shop might have been moved to another location.
