Christiana (Eschelman) Laird

The Last Will & Testament of C.A. Laird of the city of Lanark in the County of Carroll in the State of Illinois made and published the 3rd day of January in the year of our Lord 1903.

In the name of God amen, I, C.A. Laird of the city of Lanark in the County of Carroll in the State of Illinois at the age of 82 years and being of sound mind and memory do hereby make, publish and declare this my LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT in manner following, that is to say:

First it is my will that all my funeral expenses and all my just debts be fully paid.

Second- After the payment of my just debts I give and bequeath to each of my children, John E. Laird, James M. Laird, Joseph Laird, the sum of one dollar each

Third - I give and bequeath to my grandchildren - Francis Harwood, Annie Harwood, B. Leroy Laird and Jessie Laird the sum of one dollar each.

Fourth - All the balance and remainder of my property, personal and real, including closes in action, I give to my daughter Amelia Laird to own absolutely.

To the honorable A.F. Wingert Judge of said Court.
The undersigned petitioner Amelia Laird respectfully represents to your honor that the attached instrument of writing purports to the Last Will & Testament of C.A. Laird deceased.

That the said deceased departed this life at Lanark, Carroll Co IL on or about the 30th day of March A.D. 1904. and also that C.A. Laird at the time of her death resided at Lanark in the County of Carroll in the State of Illinois

Your petitioner further represents that the said C.A. Laird left at the time of her death the following named heirs at law and legacies. No Husband.

In the County Court of Carroll County December Term A.D. 1905 in re the Last Will and Testament of C.A. Laird, deceased. IN PROBATE

To the honorable A.F. Wingert Judge of said Court.

Your petitioner B. LeRoy Laird respectively represents unto your honor that C.A. Laird departed this life at Lanark, county and state aforesaid on or about the 30th day of March A.D. 1904, leaving as it is said a Last Will & Testament duly signed, published and attested which said will together with the petition for probate thereof is now on file in the office of the clerk of this court.

Your petitioner further represents that said Last Will & Testament was was attested by R.P. Wales & Aggie J. Woodside.

That said R.P. Wales now is a non-resident of the state of Illinois and resides at 1619 N. Cascade Ave. Colorado Springs, Colo., that said Aggie J. Woodside resides in Lanark, county and state aforesaid.

Your petitioner further represents that C.W. Haines, 64 Bank Bldg. N.Tyin Street Colorado Springs, Colo., is a Notary Public duly commissionned and acting.

He therefore asks the court to order the clerk of said court to give the proper publication notice as is required by law in such cases made and provided. And that a Dedimus issue from this court and that the said C.W. Haines be commissioned by the court to take the deposition of the said R.P. Wales in respect to his signature to the said Last Will & Testament of the said C.A. Laird in keeping with the interrogatories hereto annexed and made a part of this petition, and that your honor will make such other and further orders as the best interest of the estate may require and to your honor may seem meet.
