William Hickman Onstott
William Hickman Onstott, son of Levi and Martha Onstott, was born May 26, 1880, at the old home place one mile west of Xenia, departed this life September 8, 1924, age 44 years, 4 months and 14 days, leaving behind an aged mother and wife and five children, one sister and one brother. Passed away at the sanitarium in Centralia from sickness caused by an injury received while working for the C. & E. I. Railroad at Salem on August 1.
His remains were laid to rest in the family cemetery, which is known as the Onstott cemetery. A part of the old farm on which the man was born and reared and on which the man was born and reared and on which he had thus far reared his family. Thus he sleeps among the scenes of his childhood to await that final resurrection of the soul.
The sermon was delivered by the Rev. Mr. Baker, to perhaps the largest assembly of people that had ever been gathered to a funeral at this cemetery. At the grave the beautiful and impressive services of the Masonic fraternity were carried out under the auspices of the Masonic lodge of Xenia, of which he was a faithful member.
