Benjamin Hayes, age 70, was run over and killed by a train of cars near Iola. [The Newton Press, Jasper Co, IL .... June 24, 1891. Submitted by K. Torp]

Mrs. E. F. Malinsky Dead
   Flora people were surprised when they learned of the death of Mrs. E.F. Malinsky last Saturday night at their home in west Flora.  Although she had been ill for 10 days, very few knew the ilness was serious.  She had contracted ptomaine poisoning.
    Funeral services were held at the Christian church Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C.L. Doty, followed by interment in Elmwood cemetery.  Deceased was a member of the Loyal Women's class of the Christian Sunday School and members of the class were honorary pall-bearers.
     Among the out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral were:  Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Malinsky and family of Washington, Ind., Mr.and Mrs. Frank Humphrey and Mrs. and Mrs. Albert Malinsky of Kinmundy, Mrs. Lena Harmon
of Springfield, Mrs. Edna Malinsky of Bluffs, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Malinsky of Gilmore, and daughter of Effingham, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Beccue of Gilmore, Mr. and Mrs. A.N. Lewis, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Williams and family, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Williams and family, Mr. and Mrs. Deshays, Mr. Harve Hoffman and son, all of Iola; Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Johnson and Presley Johnson of Eldorado; Mrs. Julia Mallrick of Odin

    Eldon Akes received a message last week bringing more sorrow than is seemingly due for one family.  It was a message from his son-in-law, who lives  in Anthon, Iowa, stating that the daughter and three of the children were dead, caused from kerosene explosion, but giving no further details of the awful circumstance which caused death to the four.  Mrs. Akes and daughters Minnie and Della, at once started for the Iowa city to attend the funeral on Monday of this week.  The family have the sympathy of the people of Xenia.   Flora Record January 1, 1920

R.L. Boggs Dies at Fairfield

    Richard L. Boggs, eldest son of Judge and Mrs. C.C. Boggs, died at his home in Fairfield last Saturday, from the effects of an operation for appendicitis.
    We have been personally acquainted with “Dick”, as everybody called him, for many years, and he was a fine young man, whose many friends will learn with deep regret of his untimely death.  He was a practicing attorney in his old home town and rated as an exceptionally good lawyer.  Flora Record January 1, 1920

Eli Maxwell Dies
    Eli Maxwell who formerly lived near Louisville recently died at his home in Almo, Arkansas.  He was a pioneer settler  in this county, and had many friends here who will remember him kindly and regret to learn of his death.  He was the father of Mrs. Frances Golden of our city.  He leaves a wife and two other daughters, who reside in Almo.

Amos Shriver Passes Away
    The death of Amos Shriver occurred at the hospital last week after a lingering and painful illness.  His health had been failing for the past year or more, and his friends had no hope of his recovery.  Mr. Shriver was prominently identified with the business interest of Flora for a number of years, and had many friends who will regret to learn of his death.  Funeral services were held at the family residence in Flora Sunday and the remains were laid at rest in the Elmwood Cemetery.
