This is the cabin that Abe Lincoln helped his father to build in 1831 in Coles County. The cabin
was later taken to Chicago during the World's Fair.
"Saturday, the old log cabin in Pleasant Grove Township, which Thomas Lincoln, the father
of the martyred president, spent the latter years of his life, was sold to a Chicago firm for $1000. The sale was
negotiated to John Hall, the present owner of the land, by J. W. Craig of Mattoon. The cabin was built by Thomas
Lincoln himself, and is worth about one or 2 dollars for firewood, as it is about 50 years old and many of the
logs are somewhat rotten. The building will be taken down, moved to Chicago and put up again as nearly in its present
condition as possible. It will be used as one of the curiosities to be exhibited at the world's fair. Charleston
