JOHN
J. DEYOUNG, farmer, Section 9, P.O. Roseland, came with his parents to Calumet
Township, Cook County, in 1849. His father, Jacob DeYoung, bought a farm and paid five dollars per acre for it
There were six children in the family, five sons and one daughter. The father died March 27, 1876. John J. was
born in Holland August 27, 1836, coming with his parents to America in 1848. In 1865 he married Miss Jennie Kommers,
a native of Holland, born February 6, 1842. They bare eleven children--Elizabeth, Gertie, Isaac, Jacob, Mary, Katie,
