LOCATION:

Uptown is a neighborhood in Chicago, located north of Chicago's downtown area. It borders Lake Michigan to the east, Edgewater to the north, Lincoln Square to the west and Lake View to the south. Its officially designated boundaries are:

Foster on the north; Lake Michigan on the east; Montrose (Ravenswood to Clark), and Irving Park (Clark to Lake Michigan) on the south; Ravenswood (Foster to Montrose), and Clark (Montrose to Irving Park) on the west.


Graceland Cemetery is located in Uptown.


NAMED AFTER:

The fact that all northbound trains from downtown ended here. It was the terminal of the rail line that led north from the center of the city. It became known as an entertainment center with the Aragon Ballroom, Riviera Theater, Uptown Theater, and Green Mill all being located here.
