Crawford County, Illinois
Genealogy and History
Sixty-five years ago, there were several baseball teams in Crawford County. Elderly readers will recall that "The Alpines" had a Ball-park, grandstand and a well-kept diamond on the north side of the road, a little east of the present West Gate Shopping Center. The Moose Lodge had a good team in those days and there were others, including that of Glenn's Camp in a thriving oil producing area of the county.
The Argus is indebted to Roy Mann for the above historic picture and identifications are as follows:
Front row, left to right, Roy Mann, Matt Murray, Art Connett and Ralph Miller
Back row, left to right, Clarence Richart, Oden Sears, "Toadie" Parker (Manager), a teamster working in the community, Harry Frost, Jess Hetzler.
Source: the Argus, unknown date, but probably c. 1980.
Contributed to Genealogy Trails by Amy Sakellariou, who adds: "My grandfather was Carl Richart. His father was Clarence. I found this article while learning more about his side of the family and thought others may want to see it."
