1. "Newman Beginnings?"
I descend from WADE HAMPTON NEWMAN whose son Wade Hampton Newman, Jr. migrated to, and eventually died in Coles County.

I am wondering what his connection may have been, if any, to NEWMAN, ILLINOIS which is in present day DOUGLAS COUNTY. There is also a NEWMAN CEMETERY.

Is there anything written about who the community of “NEWMAN” was named after?

Thank you, John Mays, Perrysburg, Ohio

1. "Marriage Record Jenkins/Lewis"
I have found a marriage record in Douglas County which I believe is my g-grandparents. It is for Morgan Jenkins and Susannah Lewis married December 28, 1865 in Douglas County. My question is does anybody have a Susannah Lewis in their Lewis line? She was born May 30th, 1842 in Indiana. Any help would be appreciated. I have her death certificate and other records none of them list her parents this has been a major hurdle to try to get over.
Thanks
Marjorie

What do you have on the Lewis line? My Susannah was born in Indiana but I have no idea where. Just all records say Indiana for birth. I did find a Susannah in Porter County Indiana 1850 census that fit her age daughter of a William Lewis.
I will be out of town for two weeks so if I don't reply immediately that is why I will get back to you.

1. "ACKERMAN/WHEELER Tuscola, Illinois"
Samuel Platt ACKERMAN (b. Ohio abt. 1857) married Nettie Elizabeth WHEELER (b. Illinois abt. 1860) on May 26, 1880 in Douglas County. There children were: Helen Moore ACKERMAN (b. June 24, 1881), Bruce ACKERMAN, and Mark Lee ACKERMAN (abt. 1884). Samuel was a printer. According to the 1880 census Samuel's father was born in New York and his mother in Ohio. He and Nettie had just married and were living in the household of Jonathan Hall (2nd Ward, Decatur, Macon, Illinois) who was a journalist.

Anyone else researching this line?

1. "Siders, Jacob"
My great, great, grandfather, Jacob Siders and his wife Susannah (Clarke) lived in Douglas Co., in and around the CAMargo township for many years. My great grandfather, James lived there after his marriage also. my Grandfather, Charles Perry Siders was born there. Does anyone know anything about Jacob and Susannah and their lives in Douglas County? I do not know when he died but Susannah passed away in I believe 1904 or 05.

1. "Walsh Monahans search: Douglas County"
I AM looking for descendants of James and Bridget Walsh who settled in Arcola before the Civil War. While I am most interested in descendants of their daughter Julia, whose godparents were named Monahans, I would also be interested in ANY information (especially a way to find photographs, newspaper clippings, etc.) on any of their other children. I believe they had 11, but only five survived to adulthood. The two names I have for girls are Julia and Marie; the names I have for boys are James, Joseph and John. Julia remained in Arcola at least until the 1930's, as did Marie. I do not know about the others.

I AM a novice at searching, and I do not live in Douglas County. I am making my first trip there in a few weeks to try to find some local resources, so any suggestions on libraries, archives and such would be welcome. Thanks!.

1. "Butler family"
James Goodiff Butler was born April 5, 1860 in Tuscola. His parents died when he was 4. We are wondering what happened to them. He had an older brother, Andrew and sister Prudence. No sigh of anyone but James who went on to have a family. Did the town have a fire, illness or something?
