We were among the participants on the evening of the 23d inst., on a most enjoyable occasion, vis: the wedding of Laura, oldest daughter of two of our well known townspeople - Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Married-Tuesday morning Henry
Frieportner was married to Catharine Schwarz. The bride's home being at Teutopolis, the marriage ceremony was performed at the Catholic Church of that place, and the groom belonging to the Effingham Hook and Ladder fire company, the members of that company, dressed in their uniform, started on horseback early in the morning to Teutopolis to escort the married couple on their way back to Effingham. At about noon the wedding party, accompanied by the blue jackets on horseback, came dashing into town in the wildest merriment, presenting quite a novel appearance. The marriage festivities were concluded by all manner of merry-making at the residence of Barny Frieportner, in the evening. Thus was consummated the marriage of one Frieportner, and if indications are not deceptive, there will be a wedding at no distant day one of the contracting parties will be another Frieportner.

The subject of the street conversation last Monday morning was the early nuptials the night previous.

Wright and Elizabeth Mitchell, daughter to Wm. Mitchell of this city, clandestinely stole unto Col. Filler's residence at the bewitching hour of one A.M. Monday morning and informed him of their desire to procure a license. The license was accordingly issued and they hurried to Judge Harrah's residence where they were duly united.

Last Thursday evening Miss Lydia VanHorn invited some of her relatives and friends in to spend the evening, not disclosing to them the slightest intention of an impending matrimonial ceremony in the celebration of her nuptials. At half past eight the invited guests were having a sociable time in the parlor, when Rev. Gibson dropped in, accidentally, of course, and immediately led the wedding party to their positions in their parlor, where he put his ministerial seal to the nuptial bonds of Mr. Ed
Sibley and Miss Lydia VanHorn.

Bell to Mr. Wm. P. Greenawalt. Miss B. is a daughter of Mr. J. N. Bell and is a great favorite in our society. Mr. G. is well known in this community and is certainly one of our rising young men.

Evans, of Union township, and Mrs. Tharpe, a comely widow of Lucas.

Mr. Samuel
Flowers and Miss Mollie Klink were married yesterday evening at the residence of the bride's parents, in our city, by Rev. L. Frese. Mr. Flowers is a brakeman on the Vandalia, possessing many fine qualities of character, and Miss Mollie is too well known in our city to require any complimentary comments.

Mr. Jeremiah
Eliston and Miss Sarah E. Shouse were married last Thursday evening at the residence of Judge Jones, his honor, the Judge, sealing the bonds. Miss Shouse was not quite of age, but the consent of her guardian being obtained, the match was consummated.

Miss Belle
Hawley, daughter of Rev. Hawley, formerly a Methodist minister in our city, will be married next Wednesday evening at the residence of her mother in St. Louis, to Mr. F. D. Turner, an attorney of that city. Many of Miss Belle's old friends here were favored with invitations.

Miss Katie
Bradsby, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Bradsby, will be united in matrimony to day (Wednesday) to Mr. Frank W. Burnett, of Edwardsville, Ill., the nuptials being celebrated at St. Louis, Bishop Ryan officiating. Mr. Bradsby left Monday evening for St. Louis, to be present at the ceremony.

Pontias and Miss Jennie Marshall were united in matrimony. Dr. Hollen officiating. Noah was in the first stage of bachelorhood, but Cupid was too much for him.

Norton, a carpenter of the Vandalia road, was married last week in our city to Miss Mary B. Gillespie.

Johnston went to St. Louis this morning to attend the marriage of his sister-in-law, Miss Belle Hawley, this evening.

Clutter, the insurance agent and mail carrier, we understand is to be married at Washington City this evening to Mrs. Kelley, a sister to his former wife. Mr. Clutter and wife will soon return to our city and take up their residence here.
