Thirty-nine of the forty-nine officers and
enlisted men comprising Havana’s Battery B of the 233rd Field Artillery
Battalion, a component of the Illinois National Guard 44th Division,
are pictured above while getting ready for their Tuesday departure for
Camp Cooke, California, where they expect to undergo nine months of
comprehensive combat training.

Ten men were not in the photo because of
various reasons, including the fact that some were driving to the Camp
Cooke location. They were Sgt. John R. Barrett, who has been
attending school, Sgt. Harold E. Palmer, who was with the advance party
to Camp Cooke; Sgt. Robert Payne, attending school; Cpl. Donald L.
Ellsworth, at Camp Cooke, Cpl. Michael M. Gibboney, at Camp Cooke; Cpl
Lawrence G. Martin, attending school, Cpl Larry G. Tarvin, at Camp
Cooke, Pfc. John J. Pratt, Pfc Donald Wilcoxen, Jr., Camp Cooke.
From Vicky Scott: My dad, Donald Lindsey (back row) had a picture of his battalion from the
Korean War. While going through some clippings I found the
picture with all of the caption and an explanation of ones not in the
picture. This is a picture of the Illinois National Guard 44th
Division; Havana's Battery B of the 233rd Field Artillery Battalion.
