Edward Foster, farmer, sec. 18; P. O., Vermont. Upon the
18th of Aug., 1818, there was born to Edward and Ann (Woodrow) Foster
in the State of Maryland a son, the subject of this biography.
His father was a wheelwright by trade, but in after years he
farmed. Edward was the eldest of a family of 5 children. At
the age of 16 he went with his parents to Ohio. In 1842 he took
unto himself a wife in the person of Miss Mary Mercer, who became the
mother of 6 children, all of whom are living. In 1851 Mr. F. came
to Astoria and bought a small farm which has grown to 150 acres.
Nov. 12, 1859, Mrs. F. was laid at rest in Salem cemetery. In
1861 he married a sister of his first wife, Miss Sarah A. Mercer, who
bore him one child. Mrs. Sarah Foster died in 1876. In 1878
he contracted marriage with Miss Emma Green, of Fayette county,
Pennsylvania.
